Acronis True Image Home 2009 system hangup
Helping a friend, I suggested installing Acronis for her backup program. She is running a laptop with Windows XP Pro, version 2002, Service Pack 3 on it. We purchased the program and had a successful install. Tried to do a full backup (image) of the laptop backing up to an external drive with plenty of space available. The system totally locked up (hung up) after getting into about 11 gigs of data out of 20 gigs of data. Nothing was able to be done to get out of the freeze of the laptop. Turned off the laptop and rebooted. Have tried a couple of times to backup with it doing exactly the same thing with about the same amount of gigs backed up. She does have three partitions on her laptop with one being a FAT16 (don't know why - not a real tech person) and she is very paranoid running lots of programs such as zone alert (which Acronis should handle) along with Norton. Any ideas from anyone would be appreciated?? Thanks, Bob

I agree with DwnNDrty run chkdsk /r and try a backup using the Acronis Boot CD.
This has worked for me when the Windows method failed.

Hello Robert,
Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/ | Acronis True Image Home 2009]]
The source of the issue can be Norton software installed, as Acronis True Image Home 2009 is incompatible with Norton. I would recommend you temporarily disable or uninstall any Norton software and see if the issue persists. As workaround use Acronis bootable media. See user guide for more information concerning creation of Acronis Rescue Media.

I did have her run chkdsk on her laptop...didn't think about the external drive...will do that...I will also try backup from the created Acronis Boot Disk...I wanted her to have Acronis so she could have her backup's run without any intervention...if she has to run backup's through the boot disk, it pretty much defeats the purpose of having Acronis. Concerning Norton, I have used Acronis in it's various versions for years on different machines I have owned all with Norton running without any issues...really didn't realize until now they weren't compatible...guess I have just been lucky. In any case, thanks for everyone taking the time to help out!!
Take care,
Bob

Hello Robert,
Thank you for your response.
Please perform the operation under Acronis Bootable rescue media and let us know the results, this will help us to localize the issue. If the standalone version of the program runs flawless, please obtain the below information:
1) - Download and unpack the Device Tree application:
- Run the application;
- Completely unfold the \Driver\Disk and \Driver\FtDisk branches (please see the attached file);
- Move the margin to the right in order to see all the items;
- Make a screen shot and send it to us.
Please note that the application may crash the system when you exit, so we recommend you to save all your work and close other programs prior to running it.
If you are not familiar with making screen shots, please read the below step-by-step instructions.
- Get to the window which you want to make a screen shot of;
- Hit the (Alt+)PrintScreen button on your keyboard;
- Run Paint usually available in Start\Programs\Accessories or another graphics application;
- Choose Paste command in Edit menu;
- Save the result picture in JPEG format being preferable.
2) Please do the following in order to enable dump files:
- Right click on "My Computer" and choose "Properties";
- Go to "Advanced" tab;
- Go to "Startup" and "Recover Settings";
- Choose "Kernel memory dump" in "Write debugging information" box;
- Close all the dialog windows by clicking OK buttons.
Now, please reproduce the iisue and send us the dump files created. This will allow us to investigate the problem thoroughly.
2) - Open Start\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Information;
- Choose the "Save" option in the "File" menu (or "Action" menu under Windows 2000), enter the "File name" and set the field "Save as type" to "System Information File (*.NFO)";
- Send us the saved file.
You can send us thse files via PMs.
Thank you.

Bought a Sony DVD burner a few days ago. Along with the hardware came the Nero 8 software. After I loaded Nero 8 using the 'Typical' install, Acronis True Image 2009 would always freeze up when I tried to do a backup. I uninstalled Nero 8 and Acronis worked OK. Then I did a custom install of Nero 8, loading only the Nero 8 Essential burner and the CD cover maker software leaving out the video software, tools, etc. Acronis worked OK with this. I'm not sure what part of Nero 8 interferes with Acronis. Has anybody figured this out?

Dmitry:
Maybe we shouldn't blame Norton so quickly. I have never had an issue with TI and Norton products. I've used TI 08, 10, & 2009. On the other hand, BitDefender gave me headaches almost every week.
Which Norton products cause TI problems?
What are the TI problems are caused by Norton?
Fungus

Hello all,
We have seen several cases when Acronis driver conflicts with drivers installed from Norton applications. It's related to backup and anti viral software... The recommendation about disabling will help us to determine whether this particular case is related to conflict with Norton or not.
Thank you.

I have got problems with launching Acronis True Image Home 2009 on my computer (Win XP Home Edition SP3). Windows reports error. There were not problems during installation Acronis from installation disc.
But when I tried to install demo version of Acronis TI Home 2009 - I failed due to some error (as Windows again reported) and simultaneously Norton 360 3.0 signalled that trojan horse infostealer.gampass was detected and blocked.
In case with demo version it was impossibbe even to launch setup.exe file and in case with regular version of Acronis TI Home 2009 I cannot launch programm after installation. I am not computer specialist but it seems reason is the same in both cases.
