Hello
The build is 6.053 and I see no updates so far.
If and when one does occur, am I notified automatically?
Also, if I select to update Acronis, should I then create a new rescue disc to be sure I can recover?

The latest build for the US English version is 7,046. Don't count on being automatically notified.

You should create a new rescue CD (or flashdrive) whenever you update/upgrade. However, keep the old one around in case you need it.
