Acronis True Image Home 2010 backup to NAS fails with lost connection

Thread needs solution

I have a Western Digital MyBook World Edition NAS linked (ethernet) to a Linksys wireless router.

I am successfully able to attach to this drive from a Windows 7 PC, a Vista Laptop, a Windows XP PC and a Windows XP Laptop by mapping a drive (WD software actually does this for me).

However, if I try to run Acronis TI 2010 backup from the XP machines it always fails because the connection to the drive is lost. An Acronis backup will typically run for about 5-10 mins before failing, usually after each split in the archive (but not necessarily). Acronis gives the option to retry and if I wait a minute the connection is usually restored temporarily but is lost again a few minutes later and so the cycle of lost connection/reconnected continues with the resulting file corrupt and unusable.

There is no problem doing a backup from the Windows 7/Vista machines for any file size/duration.

There is no problem doing backup from Windows XP to a USB-connected drive for any file size/duration.

I was under the impression that Acronis TI 2010 was able to backup to NAS drives, but this does not appear to be the case when applied to Windows XP. Please can anyone help?

Hello,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.
Please reduce network transferring speed in Default backup options (Tools and utilities -> Options -> Local Storage settings ->  Network connection speed). Also please set Backup priority to High in Backup options -> Backup priority.
Also try to specify the NAS drive using the IP address while managing a backup task.
If the issue persists, please obtain the log file of the failed operation and attach to your next post:
 - Launch the program;
- Tasks and logs, Log;
- Choose the log entry which contains errors and make right-click on it;
- Select save option and specify the desired location for the log file to save to;
- Send us the log.
We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.
Thank you.

Hi Oleg

Thanks for your reply. I have tried running the backup with the suggested settings (Priority=High, Network connection speed = minimum, IP address specified). This time it ran for about 2 minutes and wrote a 1.1GB file to the NAS disk before failing. I have attached the log.

Hi Oleg

I have collected some of the information as requested and I attach the AcronisInfo file and the Wiresharl Log. The Wireshark Log is quite large so I've saved it as a txt file and then zipped it. The ProcessMonitor PML file is much too big to attach (58MB zipped). I was unable to reply as a Private Message - "Access Denied" message when clicking the link.

Thanks

Janet
