Acronis True Image Home 2010 Build 7046 - cannot copy large folder from mounted .tib file

Thread needs solution

Hi all,

I am running Acronis True Image Home 2010 Build 7046 on a Windows 7 64-bit PC.

After opening a .tib file, I want to copy one of the first level folders that has the following Properties:

Size: 1.4 GB
48,000 Files
1,400 Folders

After doing Copy, when I Paste to the destination I get a rotating circle for about 10 seconds then nothing else happens.

I can copy smaller folders OK.

Regards,
Leigh

Can you copy parts of it, say, some of the directories at a time?

Does the backup validate okay?

Alternatively you should be able to do a restore of selected files. Not a fix but might work for you as a workarounduntil the other issue is resovled.

As a workaround, I was able to copy the child folders one at a time until I got about 50% through the child folders. I was then able to copy the remaining child folders one at a time.

That's why I think the bug relates to the total number of files/folders?

Have you tried Exploring the image instead of Mounting it? It may work differently.

Sorry, my terminology was ambiguous - I have been Exploring the image (I don't believe TI Home 2010 can Mount an image).

TI 2010 can Mount partition images (FAT32/NTFS format).

Was your backup a files & folders (Data) type backup?

This time I used TI 2010 to Mount the image - and this time I could copy the entire folder without a problem.

So the problem arises when the image is Explored.

My image is for an entire partition, not a folders (Data) type backup.

Hello,

MudCrab, thanks for your help.

Leigh, let me assist you.

When you mount the image that Windows, then Windows built-in tools are used to make any file operations, whereas when you just explore the image Acronis True Image Backup Archive Explorer is used.

Backup Archive Explorer is slower than native tools, so it may take a significant amount of time to enumerate and copy such folders. I may suggest you to wait for a more time until the operation finishes.

If the operation will fail, please contact me via Private Message and I'll provide you with a FTP link to upload your archive. I'll forward it to our QA Lab and the testers will try to reproduce and fix the issue.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

I have reproduced the problem with a relatively small archive file, about 800 MB.

I have asked Ilya for the FTP link to upload the archive.

Regards,
Leigh

Hello Leigh,

I've replied to your PM and have sent you a FTP link to upload the collected information.

Thank you very much for the provided information.

I am experiencing exactly the same with TI Home 2009 and Windows XP: Whenever I try to restore a large number of files from a tib-Archive via the explorer, the process will hang after some minutes. Everything is working fine if I mount the image using TI2009 and then copy the files from the created drive.

As the mounting process takes some time and effort, I would be happy about a solution for the explorer bug.

Regards,
Georg

P.S.: My system configuration:

  • Windows XP Prof. SP3
  • Acronis True Image Home 2009 (build 9.809)
  • tib-files are kept on a QNAP NAS drive
