Acronis true Image Home 2010 build 7154 Delete Previous Backup Archive Option not working

Thread needs solution

Hi Crew,

I've True Image Home 2010 build 7154 installed to Windows 7 x64 and for the life of me I cannot get
the "Delete Previous Backup Archive" Option to function.

I'm perfroming differential backups with "Create a new full backup after" ticked and set to 3, as well as also ticking the "Delete Previous Backup Archive".

Backup is to a network share that the backup account has full control over (tested and confirmed).

The new full backup is successfully created after three differential backups have occured however the old archive is not deleted and there is no error message or log generated.

Am I doing something wrong ?

I see there are other users reporting similar, does anyone know a resolution ?

Cheers Tony M

I unfortunately have ten copies of this useless piece of backup software bought by my employer for a number of workstation backups.

Not only will it not cleanup old backups but it will not even hold the schedule I set. Plus on Windows 7 one must be an admin to even view the current config.

There is no support options as the support Wizard leads only to the option to purchase support or the knowledgebase/forums. If the software worked "As Advertised" and according to the manual I'd be happy with it but in it's present form it's quite useless.

My employer is a software development company deleloping and selling enterprise level software and there is no way we could gain any sort of acceptance signoff if our own software was this unrelable and so lacking in being able to get support.

A refund is about the only option available now.

Is any Acronis moderator reading ??

 Tony,

You might try this combination as per diagram.

Change the 6 to 3. Change the 4 to 1. Uncheck save original.

Be sure to save the changes as per the instructions at the top.

Best results would be from a new task but editing an old task and with the special save instructions,

an edited task might work.

Hi GroverH,

Thanks but it's *True Image Home 2010*.

If the software worked as advertised I'd be happy, however it fails on several critical functions such as permissions, scheduling and cleanup.

I've stopped installing it and am trialing Ghost 15 and the option of Ghost Solution Suite.

Cheers

Hello Tony, Pat, and GroverH!

Thank you for reporting about the issue and for your comments.

Pat, GroverH, thank you for your help.

Tony, I entirely understand how frustrating the situation is. I've checked with the Development team - they are aware of the issue and working on reproducing it.

We would appreciate if you could kindly specify us the following information:

  1. Acronis Info from the problem machine
  2. Whether this functionality works for you in the trial version of Acronis True Image Home 2011

I'm sorry for you had to wait for a response. Unfortunately, Forum is not a support channel, but a community (sse TOU), thus for emergency cases we advise to contact support directly.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

I had this exact same problem with 7154... Seems like a definite bug... I'm going to have to revert back to an earlier version until this is resolved... Please let us know...

Yana,

Is your development team not able to reproduce this problem!? This is happening to ALL of us, and it is extremely frustrating. Also, while I appreciate your trying to direct us to the correct area for support, the link you provided ultimately leads one to a subscription-based support line (which is preposterous). How are we supposed to report problems and issues to Acronis WITHOUT having to pay $10 for a service that should be free to begin with? I understand charging for one-on-one support, but to have no mechanism to at least report issues (for free) is really unbelievable.

As Tony mentioned, the product was advertised as having the capability of auto-deleting old backups when a new Full backup is run, thus freeing up valuable HDD space. The stark reality is: your product is not working, so we all expect free support for issues like this.

I have read the "Forum" extensively and have not encountered a single person (regardless of build) who is able to solve the problem. I am working with Acronis True Image Home 2010, build 6029. From what I see, even those who have the most current build still have the problem. I have attached my Acronis Info system file to this message, and am in the process of upgrading to the most current build (with no hope that it will work, given everyone else's attempts with that build already).

Please, please, please help us with this. I must say that all other parts of your program work great, but this is a CRITICAL area of failure and really needs to be addressed immediately.

Thank you,
-Bryan

Dear Linda and Bryan,

Thank you for your comments, I really appreciate it.

Dear Brian, I completely understand your frustration. Our Development team is working on reproducing the issue, but the problem is that different Customers have different hardware, configuration,  and installed software. Thus in order to localize the exact cause of the problem, we need to review several reports from different machines of different Customers. That's why we ask to provide us with additional information.

Unfortunately only a few Customers actually proceed with investigating the issue (which is also understandable). So we're really very grateful for your decision to send us the diagnostic information, I really appreciate it.

Unfortunately it looks like the diagnostic info you've send looks got blocked, as it wasn't attached to your private message. Could you please kindly resend it or upload to the FTP account I've created for you? You will find the link to it in the Private message I've sent you.

Thank you for sharing your concerns and questions with us.

Yana,
I am evaluating your software and bumped into the same issue. Actually pretty happy how the program work except that flaw but this pretty important, I have now to clean up manually my drive to make sure backups are performed as they should be, not the idea of the whole thing.

When I downloaded the trial version it was the 2010 edition. I am ready to help in tracking down that issue if you want. I ran the Acronis Info program. I'll PM you with the details how to download it.

Dear Jean-Luc,

Thank you for the information provided! I've forwarded it to our Testers team.

I also have good news: our Development team managed to reproduce the issue and currently working on a fix for  it, which is expected to be added to the upcoming update for Acronis True Image Home 2010.

The diagnostic information provided is a great help, and we'd like to thank you for it. It allows us to test the issue in different environments and it shed the light on the issue cause.

I will track the issue state and will keep you updated.

Thank you!

Yana,

I am glad that I helped I am monitoring this thread to see when the fix will be available.

Any news on this topic ? I am getting very close to the end of my trial and as it is I don't think I could purchase it

Hi Yana,

Thanks for the offer of support but it's a bit useless to have to pay to even report an issue. The reality is that the forums are the only support options Acronis supplies for reporting issues for free.

Also I cannot believe your developers cannot reproduce the issue :-0 as every machine I've installed it to (covering a 2 year range of machine age all with Windows 7) displays the issue and more for that matter.

I'm sorry but we've moved on to software that actually functions and I could never recommend Acronis when it fails this most basic and fundamental operation of cleanup as well having all the other issues.

Thanks anyway.

19FEB2011:
Folks, I too was perplexed w/AcronisTrueImageHome2011. BUT if one opens the main Acronis window and left clicks the backup to be removed and then right clicks, one is presented the option to delete the chosen backup! Windows Explorer verified that it was removed! Hallelujah!
Hope this helps.
Jeff

Jeff,
Thanks for sharing. There are some really great Acronis "How to's" available for the looking. Click on my green signature link below and look at the "How to's " grouping. Even more help available in the TrueImage FAQ along the left margin.

I have just been tying to delete previous archives on Acronis True Image Home 2010, and found where to do it after a good deal of looking, definitely not obvious.
From the home screen click 'Tasks and Log', then right mouse click your backup and select edit. Then click 'Automatic consolidation', and tick 'storage period for old backups'
