Acronis True Image Home 2010 can't initialize its user interface

Thread needs solution

Hi, I've a prob here with the newly installed Acronis True Image Home 2010. I'm using Windows XP SP3, & I installed the program, reboot & then run it. But it stops at the "Initializing..." message on the True Image splash screen. Then, it has a flash of the whole window of True Image, but it stops there for about 1 or 2 minutes & an error message from Window appears. I think I found the error message from the Event Viewer, which is as below.

I have a variation of this problem. (Win 7 x64, TU build 7046). After initialization the True Image window comes up but remains blank for a full 30 seconds or so before displaying fully.

Walter,
The time delay is not unusual. A lot depends upon how many partitions and what programs are running in memory or inn process.

I don't think so. After I double click to start the application, the blue splash screen appears, at the bottom of which I can see TI enumerating all of my drives and partitions at impressive speed (I have a quad core processor and a x64 system). There then appears the legend 'Initializing' for a few seconds and then the main program window completely blank. So by the time this window appears, TI has counted all the partitions on the system. The window then remains blank for up to a minute before anything appears. I have never seen a program behave like this before. No, it is not usual.

Walter,

In the settings, try disabling the option to check for updates when TI starts. It may be causing the delay. I have to disable this or it causes problems at my location.

Lol. Glad that Walter's prob is solved, but not with mine. >< For my case, the User Interface even failed to appear & comes up with an error from Windows. Can anyone clarify me with this issue, please?

Have you tried doing a repair install of TI? Or uninstalling and reinstalling? Perhaps something didn't quite get installed correctly.

I've done it very thoroughly of reinstalling kind of stuffs, but to no avail. Now I'm clueless. Isn't there any Acronis support staff that can help out?

Siea Chin Chuan,

Do you have any card readers or USB hubs attached to your PC?

What programs do you have running in the background, especially firewall and A/V software?

If your PC has more than one log on, does TI work with the other log on's?

Does it make any difference if you run TI as Administrator?

It might be that the problem lies either with the SNAPAPI system file or the TI 2010 registry cleaner needs to be run after uninstalling TI (again) to clean up corrupt registry entries. The problem with the last one though is that the cleaner is temporarily unavailable.

Thx for ur reply, Colin. =) I do have a card reader attached. Having a NOD32 antivirus software running. My user account is Administrator already. While I've only one user account in my pc.

Try detaching the card reader and then try and start TI.

NOD32 shouldn't be causing a problem as I used to have ESS and that was OK.

Are you connected to the Internet when you try and start up TI? It has been known for TI 2010 to take a very long time for the GUI to appear if it is trying to check for updates.

Even though I've now switched that function off, it is still slow to appear.

Another thing to check is how up to date your video drivers are.

Hi all!

Thank you for opening the thread regading this issue and sharing your experience with us!

Colin, MudCrab, thank you for your kind assistance!

Dear Siea Chin Chuan! I'm really sorry for the inconvenience you've faced with the software and will be glad to assist you.

There are several possible reasons for the problem, so in order to solve it, we need to localise one. First, it could be low level drivers conflict with the Antivirus software. It can be resolve by full reinstallation:

  1. Uninstall Acronis True Image Home 2010
  2. Temporary disable antivirus and any other third party protection software
  3. Install Acronis True Image Home 2010
  4. Enable protection programs

Should the problem persist, we will need to check what exactly's crashing the program. Please gather the following information:

  1. Acronis Info from the problem machine
  2. Event logs (Start -> Run -> eventvrw.msc)
  3. Userdump

After that please kindly contact support directly with the information attached. Keep in mind that should there be any procrastination with the reply, you can always specify us the case number. We will do our best to speed up the process.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Ok I am getting the same problem of Acronis screen area remaining blank with my laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. Using TI build 7046.
Never had this problem when I backed up a week ago.
Here is my error message:

Thx a lot for Colin & Yana's help! The reply is slightly later, but still appreciate it. =) The prob is now solved after following Yana's advice. Temporarily disabled ESET NOD32 antivirus while installing the Acronis True Image Home 2010 & it seems to work after restart. Didn't expect antivirus to cause such problem. Do you mind to explain why does this occur, Yana?

However, later I found out another problem. I even thought that the approach taken is not working. The user interface of Acronis True Image Home 2010 seems to be hang and can't be initialized again. But a difference is that it doesn't produce error from Windows XP itself. & if I leave it long enough, it is able to start. Hence, I tried MudCrab advice to disable the automatic update of Acronis True Image Home 2010 and the program is able to start instantly. I didn't expect it the automatic update feature would cause such problem. Acronis really should look into this issue, as it looks like the program has error.

Anyway, now my problem is solved. Thx a lot, guys! Do appreciate it. Btw, Yana, plz enlighten me with the reason for the antivirus problem. Thx. =)

Siea Chin Chuan.
I am glad your issue is resolved. Anti-virus programs are filters designed to catch or examine everything (data) being filtered and to prevent some disk access--should that be interpreted. So, AV programs slow and sometimes stop the flow of data. It is (and has been) a good idea to regularly disable your AV programs prior to any install of another program. After the install, the AV programs can be enabled. I have been using SET NOD32 (4) for several years and it does not conflict with my 2010-TrueImage Home or any of my prior AV versions.

Ayoub,

Have you installed any new software recently, or installed any Windows Updates?

Did this happen after your A/V software updated it's database?

Have you changed or added any hardware including external drives, flash sticks etc?

Colin I have fixed my issue by unchecking the automatic updates option while in safe mode.

TI is now working like it originally did.

Seems like most of the ppl are having problem with the automatic update.

Btw, it's weird that ur NOD32 don't pose a problem for u, but it does for me. Another funny thing is they stop without informing the user?

Hello

I work on Windows 7 32bit SP1 with all new updates and TI being up-to-date.
All fine, except, if I ad my Seagate Freeto-Go, that I formatted with Fat32, TI does no more initialize its GUI.

It does not find any of my backup tasks that normally appear in the GUI. It is endlessly looking and nothing happens.

That is strange and, well, strictly a no-go again. I am loosing lots of time only for going here and typing a problem that
should not exist :(

Tobias,

What exact build of 2010 are you using?

Do other USB drives work OK?

Have you tried moving the Free2Go drive to another port?

I recall somewhere, that the inbuilt software if left enabled on the Free2Go drive causes problems.

Has TIH and this drive ever worked properly?

Colin,

as I said, we try to make sure we have TI up-to-date. So, it is build 6696 Home 2011 running on Windows 7 SP1 32bit.
However, I must say that I installed SuRun on our machines. May be, may!, that it plays a role but I doubt that since other USB drives and flashdrives work well or do not intercept.

As said, I formatted this Freetogo Seagate drive with Fat32. However, I put all its original files back to it. So, there are those Seagate 3rd party tools sitting on the drive again but they were never run.

The drive is free of errors and yes I can not tell if it worked earlier with TI since it is new....

My assumption is that TI is looking for TIB on the drive that is connected by drive letter H: by Windows since we got several backup tasks that are binded to external drives and may be there was one that had H:, too.
But I do not know at the moment.

What is up Collin or support dev team?

I still have no solution or a hint how to solve this?

TI works until I connect my Seagate Free go that is formatted in Fat32 (512MB). Then TI hangs and does not initialize its GUI.

That is inacceptable for a back up tool.

I need a solution.

Tobias,

I don't have a Free2Go to try out. Does formatting it as NTFS make any difference?

Does the drive show up in Windows Disk Management when TIH hangs?

Have you tried using a different USB port?

I'm out of ideas, so you might have to contact Acronis Support.

Out of interest does the Rescue CD see the Free2Go drive?

Dear Colin

first of all, sorry that I was a bit harsh, since I thought you belong to the Acronis staff.

I tried as you suggested and can say that another USB port does not help.
The drive appears in DevManager after a while. It has not always a drive letter when i boot up Windows. Yes, that is not normal. BUT other external drives we use work together with TI though they got the same issue. What is behind this issue
we do not know at the moment. It may be that there is a problem with 'elevated users' in Win7 since we use the software 'SUrun' . This allows us to use TI under non-admin accounts but may be that there is a link to the drive letter's issue and may be TI therefore not finding this particular drive. However, as said others work.

then this will be an issue but I do not know why TI tells me this:

> Reading from sector 1976.773.183 from drive 2 did not work <

And guest what? This error message is given by the boot disk! not by the Windows version.

So, we checked the drive or more to the point, let Windows error check go over it. Result: No errors detected ?!?

So, TI clearly has a problem with the drive. Either there is an error on it or TI can not deal with the drive's specific partion, though Windows and Linux can do so all the same :(

Here are the drive's specifics:
