Acronis True Image Home 2010 Failed to read from Sector XXX of hard disk 1 / Snapshot Manager Drive (0x1000D7)
1) Very frustrated since I have been a user of Acronis either at work or home for at least a year and NOW running into this issue with my HOME system.
Purchased the latest ATIH 2010 yesterday. Loaded it onto my system which is running Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit.
Attached you will find a screen shot of the error.
Acronis starts up fine, select Back up, select backup location, named the image file with date, selected Normal priority, High compression and started the Back up. It looks like it's on it's way but then after 15 seconds BAM!!! the error in the screen shot appears. I did all of the recommended tasks from this thread and still getting the error. Have not done the backup by using the bootable CD though.
Now I had been using Acronis True Image Home 11 for at least a year with no problems until
last saturday when I went to start up Acronis 11 to do a backup image. Acronis would not even start and was giving the old "Failed to read sectors" error. Why this error after running fine for a year? By the way, the system I'm running this on is a system that has been restored with one of your back up images.
I did the following last Saturday:
Ran chkdsk three times
checked optimum performance on the destination drive
cleared the registry according to you all, then ran the newest Snapapi utility.
I was fed up and said: I will just purchase ATIH 2010 and woohoo the free plus pack.
I guess the screen shot attached can only express how I feel.
I basically am stuck between not being able to do new images and not being able to use any of my archived images. Why you may say? Because I don't trust the software. If I were to go back to my last image, how do I know ATIH 2010 will do it and if it doesn't I'm totally stuck then.
There have been posts with this same Error and there are no replies to them. If this issue cannot be resolved I will simply ask for a refund and just save off my important files to an external drive for safety, the old school way.

Hello Keith,
I understand the question and will do everything possible from my side to solve the issue.
Please check the partition for errors with /r parameter:
- Go to the Command Prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd);
- Enter the command:
chkdsk DISK: /r
where DISK is the partition letter you need to check. Please note, that checking the C: drive may require you to reboot the machine.
If the issue persists download and install SnapAPI drivers for Acronis True Image Home 2010 using the following KB article.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thank you.

I have encountered a smilar problem using the latest version of Acronis 10 on a Win7 Sony portable. I have run chkdsk three times but I keep getting the error message when I try to create a new total backup:
"Failed to read from sector 47, 094, 520 Hard Disk 1. Failed to read the snapshot (0x10C45A). CRC Error (0x100155).
I am attaching Acronis System Report and log file. Please can you help.
Thanks,
Adam Raphael

Hello Adam,
Thank you very much for your post. I will definitely assist you with this issue.
I appreciate the attached logs because they show why this problem occurs. There are some bad blocks on your 3rd partition, the one which is about 300 GB. Please try running chkdsk /r on it and see if this resolves the issue. From my experience though, problems with bad blocks can get worse over time.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.

Same Problem. Please see the attached files. I already downloaded the Sanpapi thing. I am running chkdsk now. Please advise. I did use defraggler last night and recovered quite a bit of disk space. Potential Conflict?

Hello Kelly,
Thank you for posting. I will take care of this problem for you.
Did you run chkdsk with the /r parameter? You may have to run one more time if the problem is not resolved.
Can you tell me which version of the SnapApi drivers did you download and from where?
It is not recommended to install this update unless it is mentioned in a KB article or suggested by our support.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.

Kelly - chkdsk most likely will not help you, however you may be lucky and it might resolve your issue (for now). You DO have a HD issue.
(1) I suggest that you get SpinRite and run it at level 4. NOTHING on the disk will be destroyed and it is highly likely that it will resolve the issue where you can recover your data and drive contents to another drive. I've used this application several times and in almost every case it has allowed me to recover.
(2) Get a copy of Hard Disk Sentential (I use the Pro version) and run it on all of your systems. It makes a VERY good attempt to forecast the health of your drives and let you know VERY early when a drive is starting to give you problems.
(3) After you recover your data and HD contents to another drive (a) run Hard Disk Sentential "Reinitialize disk surface" NOTE this will overwrite everything on the drive and attempt to put bad sectors out of use. (b) again run SpinRite at level 4 (depending on how sick your drive and how large it is these test can take DAYS (sometimes weeks)).
(4) NEVER put a drive into service without running HDS at the "Reinitialize disk surface" level followed by SpinRite at level 4
(5) Implement a good backup plan.

I had the same problem and found the origin:
When Acronis TI starts, it examines all drives.
One "drive" was is small Multimedia Card in an USB card reader, with a FAT File System.
TI stumbled on this drive, as the log told.
Once it was safely removed, TI worked again like a charm.
