Acronis True Image Home 2012 on Windows 10

Thread needs solution

I backed up my old Windows 7 computer hard drive with Acronis True Home Image 2012, now I am trying to open and copy specific files from that external backup. I downloaded a trial version of Acronis True Home Image 2018 as I know the 2012 version does NOT work- and anyway then I opened the .tib file with Acronis by mounting the hard drive to access it. That all went smoothly..

Now when I try to access my folder where my old documents, music, files etc were, it says "You do not have permission to access this folder"  I click through prompts to gain permission which it is then denied. It says to access the Security tab to allow access.

I open the Properties of the folder and then the Security tab and now I am lost..

"It says you must have read permissions to view the properties of this object, click Advanced to continue."

Not sure what to do in Advanced so I can open up this folder to copy over old documents, pictures, music etc. Screenshot attached.

Thank you

Taylor, welcome to these User Forums.

The core issue with permissions is caused because the user that owned the documents you are trying to access does not exist on your new computer system even though you may have created another user with the exact same name.

You can get around this by adding your old Windows 7 backup image file as an existing backup file to the ATI 2018 GUI - you will find the option to do this at the bottom of the panel as shown below:

Once you have the backup shown in the GUI, then you can then click on the Recovery option at the top of the GUI for that new task.

Select the data that you want to recover using the navigation panels shown, then click on Next where you will be shown an option for where to recover that data to.  I would suggest selecting a different location than the original one where the data was saved from.  Use the Browse link to do this.

Next, click on the Recovery options button shown at the bottom of the panel then expand the File recovery options section of the new panel shown and deselect the option to "Recover files with their original security settings"

Click on OK after making the change(s) then you can continue the operation by clicking on the Recover now button which will recover the selected files / folders to your selected new location but without any original security settings, which will allow you to work with those items.
