Acronis Universal Restore

Thread needs solution

Hi,

If you image the scenario where I've got a backup using True Image 13 and my laptop is stolen. I buy a new laptop, different brand etc.

Can I buy the universal restore and use that to restore my backup to the new machine ? Or do I have to have purchased and installed the plus pack first?

I looked at these docs

http://kb.acronis.com/content/2149

but the answer is not clear. Sorry.

Thanks.

Universal Restore is an add-on plugin to ATIH2013 and it is part of the Plus Pack. The normal procedure would be to install the Plus Pack after ATIH2013 has been installed on your PC. Then you would create a Bootable Recovery Media (CD/DVD/USB Memory) which would automatically include Universal Restore .
If you created a backup of your laptop using ATIH2013 that did not have the plugin, then you will need to get a .iso file (to burn a CD/DVD) from Acronis which has the Plus Pack included.

Hello Andrew James, mistermonday,

thank you for your posts.

Since Acronis Universal Restore works only during system recovery, it is not important if you have created a backup before or after installation of True Image 2013 by Acronis Plus Pack.

The only thing to pay attention to, is that bootable media has to contain Acronis Universal Restore function. You can create such media after installation of True Image 2013 by Acronis Plus Pack using bootable media builder or download an .iso file from your account.

For detailed instruction on how to restore to dissimilar hardware with Acronis Universal Restore please refer to this Knowledge Base article.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.
