Acronis Update being offered via Windows Update in W8.1

Thread needs solution

Very very surprised to see this. Do we have any information on what this is and what it is for ?????

Could it be part of the W8.1 to W10 compatibility updates for those that want to switch to W10 ? or is it something that should be applied anyway.

Thanks, that's interesting. W7 falls under the W7 to W10 upgrade offer...... I'm just guessing though.

Hopefully someone from Acronis can chime in and enlighten us on what this one is for and why its appeared on Windows Update.

I don't see that on my WIN 7 Home premium Desktop.

Mooly,
Which version of TrueImage do you have installed?

Hi Grover, its TI2014 build 6673

Thomas... it would be interesting to know if your W7 installation is fully updated to the point of being 'W10 ready'. Have you had the 'reserve W10 icon' appear in your system tray ?

I just checked and my Desktop is now showing TIBMounter as an optional update. The machine had been off for a couple of days until yesterday when I turned it on and updated it fully. It is "W10 ready". I'm running 2014 B6673.
As a general practice I never install the optional Windows Updates especially for drivers. I have had to clean up a friends machine because he installed an optional update for a display driver.

Thanks Thomas. I was also directed (from another forum) to the Acronis 2015 forum where there is a larger thread on all this. Apparently the update has caused major problems. I shall not be installing this one.

I almost never install optional updates like this.

I too have been offered this Windows update today. Running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and originally TI 14 build 6673
I opened TI and clicked on the check for updates under the help menu and it reported that there are no updates available, (I have always check for updates when TI starts) set anyway.
As I had lost my password I had to reset it, when I logged in, I was offered an update to build 6688 dated 20 August 2014
I wonder why this wasn't automatically downloaded?

I am using Acronis 2013 (which I know is an outdated version) and Windows 7. I saw this Windows Update for the TIB Mounter. It was listed as an optional Windows update. I figured it would not do any harm. BIG MISTAKE. Did the update and now I can no longer "Mount" Images nor recover individual files from previously created images. Tells me I need to reinstall the Acronis software. I can still create new Images with this Acronis 2013 Software, but who knows if I needed to would I be able to restore the whole partition. I still have the original install file, so I guess I have to spend a few hours uninstalling this and reinstalling it?

I also have a newer PC running Windows 8.1 using Acronis 2015 Build 6525. Have not installed the new update released this week. Earlier in this week, I saw the same Windows update available for the TIB Mounter as an optional update. Did not install it this Windows Update. Just checked for available Windows updates again today and now the TIB Mounter update is gone.

Does anybody know what this Windows Update is for?

Nope ! I sent a message to Anna Trifonova (who is usually very customer oriented) suggesting that a notice clarifying the situation be posted but as yet I haven't even received an acknowledgment.

I would hope you have an image backup made before applying this update and so can restore and undo the damage done.

Yup, I have several image backups done before the Windows Update, but I think it will be easier (and safer) to just uninstall Acronis True Image 2013 and reinstall it since I still have the original install file that I used in 2013.

Assume you have a Win 8.1 PC? Try doing another "check for Windows Updates" and let me know if you still see this update being offered as an Optional Update in the Windows Updates. Have you applied the new 2015 Acronis Update (Build) that was just released this week? I have a second newer PC running Acronis 2015 and I have not done that update yet; waiting to see if other people have problems with it.

Yes, I'm running W8.1 and the update has disappeared from Windows Update today (it was there 24 hours ago).

Personally, if you have a recent image backup then I wouldn't hesitate in using that to undo the changes. I see time and again that folk are reluctant to restore images, as if its the last chance saloon. You have to trust the software will work, otherwise its no use. I've probably done around 100+ restores over the last 7 yrs or so under 3 versions of Acronis, TIHome, TI2012 and TI2014 and have never had any issue. The restores are often from incremental chains to, perhaps 5 or 6 long depending how far into a given week we are.

I never noticed it in my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit optional updates and it's not there now. However, I don't pay any attention to optional updates, so it could have been there at one time.

I successfully installed this optional update on my laptop running Win7 Home Premium x64 with ATI 2015 installed and have had no problems with it when mounting an image of the drive on my wife's notebook. I can't mount any of the images of my laptop's drive, because I divided the disk up into 3 partitions, and ATI doesn't seem to like that. However, I can use Explorer to access these partition images, so no problem.

However, when I tried to install this update on my wife's notebook, it failed. So, since ATI 2013 was working fine without this update, I marked it as Hidden on the update service and forgot about it. The next day the update notice appeared again, but now it was listed as recommended, not optional. Now, no matter what I do it keeps reappearing like a vampire that will not die. How can I drive a wooden stake thru its heart? My wife is getting very annoyed.

On my older laptop running Win 7 and Acronis True Image 2013 .... I uninstalled the SW and reinstalled it. The reinstall was a pain. Had to get serial numbers from web site. I had the install file, but not the most recent, so after the first install, told me there was an update, so had to do a second install. I had an Acronis Secure Zone (ASZ) before and it did recognize the old one after the reinstall, but there was not enough room to make another backup and it could not recreate the old settings. So, then I had to delete my ASZ and recreate it again. Lost all the settings for my backups. So, lots of work all because I did the optional windows update for the TIB monitor.

However, now that I have it reinstalled and working, I just did another Windows Update check and I do not see any update there for the TIB Monitor or TIB mounter.
