Acronis wants to get rid of all partitions before cloning?

Thread needs solution

Hi
Sorry but I am fairly new to computers and Acronis. I have just bought a WD 1 TB external HD and have loaded some info from another computer on it. I am now trying to Clone an image of my HD on to this external HD and Acronis says that it will get rid of all partitions on the external HD before clone? Will this erase all data I have on this external HD? If so how do I get around this?
Sorry for being so naive.
Thanks

Lyndon

Lyndon,

If you create a clone, ATI will create a mirror disk of the source on the destination, and *all* existing information on the destination will be replaced by information from the source.

If you want to protect your computer against a disaster, and want to be able to restore your computer if your disk just dies, all what you need is NOT a clone but 2 things:
- a disk and partition backup of your system disk, including all partitions of that disk,
- an Acronis bootable recovery medium (CD, DVD or flash drive) that you actually test: you make it, you boot your computer on it, you get familiar with the interface of ATI that runs from it, start the disk restore wizard, even restore a couple of files only.
