Acronis WD Edition - Boot CD halts with error: Acronis Loader Fatal Error: Boot Drive (partition) not found

Thread needs solution

Hello all,

I am having a similar issue with my Acronis WD Edition as this user/forum topic:
http://forum.acronis.com/forum/14111

I can install and use the Acronis WD Edition product (Build 14,157) on my Windows 7 x64 Ultimate system. I am able to back up my internal WD 1TB SATA3 drive to my external WD USB 3.0 'My Passport' drive without errors, while using the Windows Based GUI.

However, the Bootable Rescue Media builder does not seem to create a Boot CD that my system can use. I generate the ISO file, and burn it to DVD successfully, validating the burn process. When booting my system from the DVD, I receive the following error: Acronis Loader Fatal Error: Boot Drive (partition) not found. I have searched the forums and it seems I may need an updated rescue CD containing drivers that are compatible with my system.

I have contacted Western Digital Support, and they are unable to assist me, and recommended I contact Acronis directly. When attempting to log in to Acronis Support, I am unable to register my Acronis WD Edition product as it has no serial number. I am therefore unable to download the latest boot media ISO image. Also, it does not appear that I am able to create a BartPE boot disk, as the Western Digital version of Acronis does not contain the required files to do so. When accessing chat support, the representative directed me to post in these forums for a solution.

Can you please assist me in obtaining/creating boot media that will work with my system?

I have the following hardware configuration:

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T processor
MSI Motherboard: 890GXM-G65 (890GX Chipset)
Internal Western Digital 1TB SATA 3/6Gbps HD: WD10 02FAEX-00Y9A0 SATA
Mass Storage Controller: AMD SATA Controller (890GX Chipset, AHCI mode configured for the internal HD)
External USB 3.0 1TB My Passport drive (I could live with USB 2.0 operation if USB 3.0 support is not currently available)

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Without the ability to boot from rescue media, I will be unable to restore any of my created backups.

Thanks in advance.

Hello WD User,

Thank you for post.

Most likely the bootable media is outdated and does not have support for the newer hardware.

I would like to offer you the following workaround. I will follow-up with a private message in a few minutes and provide you with a download link for the trial version of the latest Acronis True Image 2012 Home bootable media. Being a trial version it is limited to recovery operations only, but you will be able to use it to restore your backups.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hello Anton:

First off, thank you very much for your prompt reply. I was able to download and burn the latest TIH 2012 Boot Media using the link you provided.

Unfortunately, even with the updated media, I still receive the: "Acronis Loader Fatal Error: Boot Drive (partition) not found" error message on startup.

Do you have any additional suggestions or steps I can take? Would there be a way to create a WinPE boot disc using native AMD/Windows drivers to boot my system? I did not see any plug-ins for WinPE in the Acronis WD Edition directory, so I'm not sure if this is supported or not.

Thank you once again for your assistance, it is very much appreciated.

Hello,

I have the same issue as user Anton! I backup a recovery partition form my Thinkpad with Acronis True Image WD, and now that i want to restore i cant use the Bootable Media, same fatal error: boot drive (partition) not found.

Can you help me?

Thx in advance

As a substitute, create full and complete backup which includes all your partitions. You an always restore just a single partition from a backup which includes all partitions.

Hi Cabra Lia,

The solution for me was to upgrade to the full version of True Image Home 2012, add the Plus Pack, and create a Windows PE Acronis boot CD. The WindowsPE Acronis boot CD uses Windows based drivers rather than linux based drivers, and was able to boot my system.

The Acronis moderator, Anton, sent me detailed instructions on how to create a WinPE boot CD.

The catch in my case was that I had to purchase the full edition up front, with the understanding that I had 30 days to test the product. If within 30 days I couldn't get things working, I could presumably get a refund from Acronis.

In your case, the Acronis moderators may be able to provide an updated recovery CD that would be compatible with your ThinkPad. In my case, the updated recovery CDs did not work for my AMD based system, but the Full Version, Plus Pack, and WinPE boot CD did.

Best of luck to you.
