Acronis will not launch or uninstall

Thread needs solution

I have Acronis True Image 2010 installed on Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit. I installed the 6053 update (believe that is the number). Now all of a sudden I cannot open the software (says it is not installed). I tried to uninstall the software and it will not do that either. I am getting to the point where I may have to re-install windows soon. Anyone know how to fix this problem.

I just have the same issue...
Is there a way to get TrueImage runnign again.

Edit:
To be more precise:
Launching the application just tells me, that "Acronis True Image Home is not installed", and an Uninstall ends up with a warning "Fatal error during intsallation".

Hello Colin and Tom,

Please accept out profound apologies for the difficulties you have experienced.

We have released a special Acronis Clean Up utility that will help you to remove the software.

Please follow the below instructions:

Acronis Clean-Up Utility uses two additional components. Please makes sure that the following components are downloaded and installed in the system:

  • DevCon - command-line utility that is an alternative to the Windows Device Manager. This utility is required to remove Acronis traces from Device Manager. DevCon is included in Windows Vista by default. Read more in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 311272. If there is no DevCon in the system, you can download it from Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 311272 and place it in Windows\system32. Or you can just run Acronis Clean Up Utility, and it will offer to remove Acronis True Image Backup Archive Explorer manually using the steps described in the article Removing Acronis Backup Archive Explorer.
  • Msizap.exe - command-line utility that performs cleanup operations on the Windows Installer configuration management information. Msizap.exe is a part of Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. This utility is used to remove Acronis True Image Home 2010 configuration information from the system. If there is no Msizap.exe, then Acronis Clean Up Utility will offer to download Windows Installer CleanUp Utility from the Microsoft website.
  1. After the required components are installed, please download Acronis Clean Up Utility, unpack and run it;
  2. Please choose to delete all Acronis products from the system;
  3. You will be asked to close Windows Explorer instances since this is necessary to remove the tishell.dll and timounter.dll Acronis files, which interact with explorer.exe;
  4. You will be also asked to reboot the system to complete the uninstallation. You can reboot the system later.

After that, please re-install the software from scratch and check if the issue still persists.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions, I'll be glad to assist you.

Thank you.

no thanks to Acronis for providing clear installation instructions:

How to install True Image Home 2010 and optionally the Plus Pack on Windows 7 (x64)

These instructions are based on upgrading to build 6053 for both of the above packages, and your user account has administrative privileges (the UAC does not have to be turned off, but doing so temporarily may help)

1. Start a new folder to collect all the files in one place.

2. Download the devcon.exe file from Microsoft at:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311272

3. Running this executable will unzip the files. Change the destination to the new folder in Step 1.

4. Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us

5. Right-click on this file and select 'Run as Administrator'; answer UAC prompts as necessary.

6. Open the i386 folder. Copy the devcon.exe file to:
32-bit OS: Windows\System32
64-bit OS: Windows\SysWOW64

7. Log into your account at Acronis if you have not already done so.

8. Download build 6053 (or later - but make sure the build numbers match):
TrueImage2010.6053_s_en.exe (and optionally TrueImage2010PlusPack.6053_s_en.exe)

9: Gather all your license nubmers, if any product was purchased as an upgrade, you will also need the license number from the previous version. I suggest putting all these numbers in one text file.

10. Download true_image_home_cleanup.exe from:
http://kb.acronis.com/sites/default/files/content/2010/01/7533/true_ima…
and extract the executable to your file collection folder.

11. Run true_image_home_cleanup.exe. This will wipe all installed True Image software from your system, including all your current settings and schedules. Reboot.

12. Install True Image Home 2010 - note: build 6053 and later includes the updated 'snapapi' driver. You won't need to separately install the 503 version. Reboot.

13. Make sure the software opens properly. If you are installing the Plus Pack, close True Image and go to the next step, otherwise, re-do your options and recreate your backup schedules. You are done.

14. Install the Plus Pack - again, make sure the build number matches your version of the base software. Reboot.

15. Make sure the software opens properly. Re-do your options and recreate your backup schedules. You are done.
