Add to list problem

Thread needs solution

I installed Acronis TI 2015, build 6613 on my windows 7 system. My present backup archives that were created using Acronis TI 2014 are stored on a USB connected hard drive. When I try to add these archives to the list, I go through the process of following the path from the HD right to the file I want to add. However, the file is grayed out and cannot be selected to add. I have heard the later levels of Acronis should be able to restore from earlier levels of backup files, but newer backup files cannot be restored from older versions of Acronis. It that still true? Is it possible I just can't add a backup archive created via Acronis 2014 to the newer Acronis 2015 list?

There has been reports of 2014 being able to restore 2015 and 2016 backups but you would need to test for yourself.
2016 should be able to restore 2014, and 2015.

I make a practice of keeping my old TI Recoverys on a spindle so I always have them around--just in case.

Any time you restore a partition or disk, the recommended method is to do so from the recovery CD so you really do not need to have the older files listed in the installed version.

Usuablly, if a file is greyed out, it is awaitng an earler selection of the folder. The add to list is not possible unless a file or folder has been selecdted.

Thanks for your reply. You suggested trying a test recovery. I would be afraid to do that on my working system. It is my understanding prior to the actual recovery, the C drive is cleared. If this is true, and the recovery fails, I would be in deep trouble. I tried to do a restore from Acronis TI 2014 when I had a software problem on my Windows 7 Pro machine. I could not get it to start because I did not know how to setup the final destination. If I remember, I was asked to change some destinations I did not understand, and were not shown or explained in the 2014 users guide. I have had no problems restoring a Windows XP machine. I thought doing a full recovery would be the simplest. The problem with windows 7 is that the
C drive has three sections. The normal c drive, the recovery section, and a small section for other things. This probably caused the questions I did not know how to answer.
Getting back to the greyed out problem, I deleted and reinstalled Acronis 2015 and did a restart. I would think that would have cleared any waiting access to my archives.
Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

The recovery tests can be as small or as large as you wish. The smallest would be to restore s a simple text file from your My documents to an empty test folder. That would at least accomplish that your drives are seen and all is workable.
