After Acronis Disk Cloning Windows 8.1 won't boot

Thread needs solution

After using the Acronis Cloning Tool to clone my disk to a USB external, Windows 8.1 will not boot.
I get the message: "File\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD ERROR CODE: 0xc000000f
1. Computer will not boot from the external drive that has the cloned image.
2. I booted using an Acronis 2014 boot disk, but it could not locate any backed up files.
Can anyone help, Please?
Thanks

You cannot boot to a USB disk. YOu could clone your disk to a disk connected through a USB tray, and then put the disk in the computer to boot.
You would never clone to a USB disk, you would backup and create an image to that disk.
If you want to clone, put the target disk at the same spot as the source, put the source on another internal SATA port or in a USB adapter, then boot the computer on the Acronis recovery CD, then clone. Do no reboot with both the clone and the source attached at the same time to the computer.

Thank You Pat L
That is the way it should be worded in ATI 2014 documentation. Very clear and right to the point.
Thanks again

I cloned my laptop's only hard drive (source was attached via usb-3, target was installed in laptop), and after detaching all USB drives, it won't boot.

I'm running Windows 8.1, and the version of software I'm using is Acronis True Image 2014 OEM.  The target drive is smaller than the disk I'm replacing, but twice the size of the disk space used on the source drive.

Can you be a little more specific?  Seeing any error messages?  What kind of hardware, (Crucial SSD)?

What is the partition struction of the source drive?  Have you confirmed the partition structure is identical?  What troubleshooting steps have you performed?
