All Backups have Disappeared
All of my normal backups have suddenly disappeared from the Acronis screen. All that shows on the "My Backups" screen is "Entire PC (R-PC). I have tried to "Add Existing Backup", but the Add button stays grayed out, and nothing is ever added.
I have backups on two 1TB external drives and two Zip drives that I can't access.
Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks

Steve, thanks so much for your reply. I tried to Repair rather than Uninstall, but was not given that option. After aborting the Uninstall I renamed the Database folder, as you suggested. When I reopened Acronis my five Backups were back. I backed up and verified one of them, and everything now appears to be OK. I presume I can now delete the old Database folder.
Thanks again for your timely response. I continue to wonder how or why all this happened. I've used Acronis for years and have never had this problem.

Richard, I am glad that the advice helped, and if all is looking OK again, then the renamed database folder & contents can be deleted. As with any of these problems, it very much guess work as to why a problem like this comes out of the blue, perhaps some form of conflict when the database files were being written, or a file caching temporary issue that prevented some updates from being written.... lots of variables to consider.

My backups disappeared. Each time I start acronis I have to specify the backup destination and options again. I've looked in the path you gave and there doesnt seem to be a database file. What is the filename? How do I create one. The backup itself runs then the validate fails, stating that the file doesnt exist. I'm Windows 8.1
Thanks

I should have added that there is no repair option just uninstall.

Robert - stop the 4 Acronis services in computer management >>>> services (see this article for a reference of the services to look for and what they do: http://forum.acronis.com/forum/111301#comment-335893)
Then navigate to the hidden folder (turn on hidden files/folders in Windows first) C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database
rename it to C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database.old
Start those services and launch Acronis again - any luck?

Thanks, that appears to have fixed it. I'll be certain tomorrow. I only found three of the services in the task manager. I also disabled the acronis tasks in startup. It appears to work okay.
One more question, what is the best way to delete old backups on my backup drive. My total backup is 500 GB so once it does a second total backup, after 14 days, I need to delete the old one to make space. I do this in windows explorer.

Robert,
See if this post answers your question about grooming and manual removal of files outside of Acronis...

I guess that is what is happening with my installation. The backup completes successfully, but when it starts to validate, it I displays" specified file does not exist". "cannot find version three." it says cancel, browse ignore. But there is no ignore button. If I hit cancel or close the box it cancels the validate operation. the email notification says "operation failed"
I've tried running the validate interactively , from within the application window and it works okay, but not from the scheduled backup. Validating the backup did not fix this.
THanks again for your help.

Robert - honestly, I don't validate with the application anymore - I'm too impatient and it's still just a software valdiation so I don't trust it 100%. My best validation is the occassional recovery to a test disk from time to time and/or mounting the image to make sure I can browse and navigate it in Windows Explorerer.
In this case, since you're basically wanting to manually move files and get the application to upate the changes, instead of "validating" to force the database after manually moving files, I would try a "restore" and then it should immediately tell you files are missing and hopefully you can "ignore" all of them until it's happy again.

I have removed the validate option from my backup script. I can validate manually every so often. But I turn on the automatic cleanup and save it, when I start acronis again, automatic cleanup is off. Of course it doesnr happen either. Is there a config file somewhere that isnt getting updated? I dont want to delete old backup file outside of the application, but I need to soon if backups are to continue.

Hello Robert, when you change any of the options for your backup task, the change(s) only get saved when you click on one of the backup options, i.e. to backup now, in 1 hour or later etc. If you do not do this then the change(s) are lost.

Ditto to Steve's post. Also, everytime, you modify a script and save the changes, your cleanup task timeframe starts over.
Example:
You have 1 full + 6 incrementals set with the option to keep no more than 2 version chains
After the 5th incremental, you go in and change some settings and save (click the backup now or backup later button). Your version chain is now reset and essentially you need 6 additional incrementals to run before the 1st version chain is complete (aka the next full can run). If you go in and modify settings again before those 6 incrementals complete and the next full is run, you could repeat this again withotu ever giving the cleanup task the chance to take effect.

Its certainly not getting saved. Everytime I start Acronis the automatic cleanup is turned off. I have no backup later option. I started backup now then stopped it. I've always had to manually delete the older backup chain. I dont think I've ever seen such a quirky and troublesome user interface. Perhaps they need to work on that. I cant be the only one with this problem and the eventual corrupted database for manual deletions. Anyway, thanks for the help.

Robert, when you modify the script, after you click OK, you should see the backup now button or a drop down next to it. Clicking this is essentially saving the changes - it would certainly be nice if clicking OK did the save there or there was a dedicated save button once changes have been made - that would indeed make more sense. Please submit feedback through the app or olnine account to suggest this as well (as I have and others too). See attached screenshot.
