All MS programs imaged under Vista will not reload under Windows 7

Thread needs solution

I imaged my harddrive under Vista/64 in preparation for installing a full, clean version of Windows 7. Most of the programs imaged opened. NONE of my Microsoft Office 2007 programs will open, nor do they show in the "add/remove" window. I get this message when I try to open one of these programs: "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed." Am I going to be forced to buy Acronis B/R 2010 to retrieve these programs? Is there a solution to this other than reinstalling Office 2007? I own a registered, legitimate copy of the program so there's no issue there.

Ross:

Programs that store settings in the registry (like Microsoft Office) must be reinstalled in order to work properly.

Thanks Mark. That figures. So I suspect all the programs that give that message are the same way. Is that because I changed operating systems? I imaged the drive before when I had to dump an old computer and had almost no problems running those programs after running the reinstall.

It is always best to re-install all Apps when the OS is changed. Data files you can simply copy over to the new OS.

That's correct; you changed operating systems. New OS, new registry.
