Applying backup in different license version of Windows 10 OS

Thread needs solution

Hi! Good day. I have a Acronis True Image installed on my Windows 10 Home - Single Language OEM key, laptop. I already have a backup image on this version of OS and now I'm upgrading my laptop's OS into Windows 10 Pro. Does my backup on Home could be applied in Pro?
Thanks.

It would not.  Windows 10 home and Pro require different installations and keys.  If you have one system licensed for Pro and attempt to restore an image with Windows 10 Home, the license will not activate on the system... unless, you had windows 10 home already licensed on that hardware at some point.

As it sounds like you're going to upgrade to Pro over home though, that is fine.  But, if you then restore a full disk or partition backup of home adn then restore that full disk or parition backup - you're going to end up with Home on your computer again.  You could restore DATA files without issue though (pictures, music, videos, etc).

Take a backup of the system just before your upgrade so you have one last recent backup to fall back on in case your upgrade goes south.  Immediately after the upgrade to Pro, take a new backup of the system - be sure to use comments or make a note of what files are created as the start of the Pro backups.  That way, if you need to recover (say in a week, month, etc - if you need to get back to yoru original Pro version, you know where it's at).

Personally, after your last backup with home, I would start a new backup in Acronis and remove teh schedule of the existing backup (use a new, unique name for the new backup as well).  This wiill make it very clear which is the old backup with Home and which is the new backup with Pro.

I've already backup my files (games, docs, projects) and a full disk back up (windows 10 Home) incase I encounter problem. I'll give feedback on weekend regard on my result. Thanks for your reply.

Hi. just want to give update, everything works fine. Thanks :)

Glad to hear it!  That's how it's supposed to work :) Just keep in mind where your last "home" backup ended last and where your new "pro" backup started if you continue to use the same backup task instead of starting with a new one to separte them (so that you don't restore the home version if the event that you do need to recover down the road).
