Archive consolidation: Failed to open data stream

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I'm using ATI Home 2011 with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

I'm making lots of backups to the USB 3 external hard drives, and everything works great until I try to consolidate archives.

For instance, in the backup schema I select "Full backup" and check "Keep 5 most recent versions". Backups work well, but when in 5 days it comes to archive consolidation, I always get this:

16 Information 3/24/2011 12:20:03 PM Consolidate Backup Archive Location: "G:\Documents\Documents(1)255.tib" Destination: "G:\Documents\Documents(1)255_631F353E-A029-44FB-89D8-FF1C2D907DCF.tib"
17 Error 3/24/2011 12:20:03 PM Failed to open data stream.
18 Error 3/24/2011 12:20:04 PM Operation has completed with errors.

What could be a problem? ATI 2011 works very well for me, but I have never been able to consolidate archives.

Thank you.

Archive consolidation is a bit tricky as a process. It needs quite a bit of space and is quite lenghty.

Is there any chance that you are running out of space on your disk? Estimate you need as much free space as the backup you consolidate.

I shy away from consolidation and retain only a limited a backup chains (full+6 incrementals).

Thank you.

No, no chance. I have a 2 Tb drive with about 1.5 Tb free space.

Even if the process is tricky, if it's been offered as an option, it still should work, I suppose.

But I agree with you, the backup chain is probably a better solution for me.
