Archive file is not an Acronis TI file

Thread needs solution

Unfortunately I found I needed an image backup for the first time. When I tried the boot disk I had several problems. Moving the mouse a very small amount and it bounces far away from where I want it to be, so making a selection is very difficult.

When I finally get to the selection I find that all of my roughly 20 backups (all*tib) are "not ATI files! So I cannot restore.

When I called support I was told that my version is too old and is no longer supported. I am desparate.

I think my version is slightly more than a year old. The boot disk is from 1/2009 so I suspect that the version I have is about that time.

You should check what the build is for your version and then check your Acronis account (if TI 2009, press Alt to get the standard Help >> About menu). There may be a later build available. You may also have an ISO file available for download. If so, you can use it to create an updated TI CD without needing to install the updated build.

You could also try the trial version of TI 2010 and see if it could read the images.

Where are the images stored (NAS, flashdrives, USB hard drive, internal drive, etc.)? This can sometimes make a difference. For example, sometimes copying an image file from an external source to an internal source will allow it to work.

What format is being used on the drive holding the images (FAT32, NTFS, etc.)?

When were your *.tib files created?
Were they created with the 2009 version?

One rule of thumb is that an old Rescue CD will not recognize a backup created with a newer Rescue CD. However, usually a newer CD will restore back at least one or two versions.

If your *.tib files were created prior to the 2009 version, you can download copies of prior TI versions provided you registered your serial numbers. These are available from your personal registration page.
