archives.xml corrupted
Folks, I know this is the Christmas season, so I will be as polite as possible.
Since purchasing TI 11 and subsequently upgrading to TI 2010, I must confess that I have spent more time over the past several months trying to get the product to work properly than I have using my computer for any other purpose. Although the tag line on this website states "Compute with Confidence", it should perhaps say "Compute in Fear" ! I have absolutely NO confidence that any of the image backups I have made could successfully be restored should I encounter a major problem that involves recovery.
My latest in a string of issues relates to the file archives.xml in Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database. This file supposedly keeps track of the images stored on my backup device (an externally attached Western Digital My Book 1.5TB USB drive).
When I click on the Recovery tab on the left and review the Images in the list, I have attempted to remove outdated images that I no longer wish to keep by first selecting the image in question, then right clicking on it and selecting Remove. After a very long wait, a screen appears asking if I'm sure that I want to delete the selected backups. I highlight the backup image in that dialog box and then click on DELETE. Next I receive a message stating that "The operation was successfully completed" However, the entry remains in the list, and shutting down and restarting TI 2010 does nothing to make it disappear. Viewing the archives.xml file with an XML editor shows the entry is still present.
Add this to the following ... NONE of which have been answered or resolved ....
- My incremental and differential backups contain files and folders that have NOT been modified since the full backup created only minutes before. I have diabled indexing and automatic defragmenting on my hard drive.
- The "time remaining" displayed during an operation is partially cutoff (not a big deal), but it fluctuates wildly as the operation progresses, and only seems remotely accurate during the final 10 minutes.
Seasons' Greetings anyway ..... Wayne
