ATI 10 - backup splitting @ backup location / secure zone ?
i'm using ATI 10 and have created a "backup location" (german: backup speicher) on one of the partitions of my 3rd HDD.
i'm now using scheduled backups to create a full HDD image plus 5 subsequent differential backups. once the 5 differential backups have been created it will create a new full backup.
the target destination for all of those backups is the backup location mentioned above.
the problem is: the full backup is 230 GB in size - in one single *.tib file! this leads to heavy file system fragmentation on that partition and also seriously degrades the performance of the backup process.
i have not found any way to configure ATI to do backup splitting - say in chunks of 20 GB, for example.
any ideas?
thanks in advance, philippg

no, the "default options" don't help here.
previously i was talking about a scheduled backup. i have now done a test with a manual backup and discovered something:
when running through the backup wizard there's a step to select the backup options. i go for "set the options manually".
in the next screen the tree control does not contain any node for "archive splitting".
that node is only available when using a regular file system folder as backup target.
it is not available when using a "backup location" as backup target.
conclusion: the ATI backup location (which is very similar to the ATI secure zone) does not support archive splitting.
wow, that's pretty bad!
as outlined earlier: i'd like to use a "backup plan" something like "create a full backup and then 5 subsequent differential backups. after that start over again with a new full backup. etc".
but such a backup plan is only possible when using the ATI "backup location" as target destination.
and this particular target type does not support archive splitting.
a vicious circle - the two features are mutually exclusive. you can only use one feature or the other ...
due to the massive fragmentation and the slow performance it renders the backup plan unusable!

i've just tried ATI 2011 and it seems the restriction regarding backup splitting was removed with the new version.
however, i have discovered an issue with the 2011 version and backup splitting which i'm now discussing in this thread: http://forum.acronis.com/forum/20134
