ATI 2011 (b. 6942) restore with windows DOS screen
Hello, since I'm using this latest version of Trueimage 2011 I have this kind of problem:
After an image restore, any image stored on another HDD, at the first boot the screen show me what I want to do: star windows in normal mode, safe mode, safe mode with network support and so on.
The same screen that appear when windows didn't load correctly and you reset the PC
Starting Windows in normal mode it works fine, but why I have to face on that screen at any time??
When I used Trueimage 2010 never happen (same system)
For more info, I can report that my system is 5 years old (at next June):
- ASUS P5E3 (chipset Intel X38)
- CPU Intel E8400 @ 3,41GHz
- 8Gb RAM DDR3 1600MHz CL9
- HDD WD Velociraptor 150Gb 10000 rpm SATA2 (primary)
- 3 HDD Seagate 160Gb 7200 rpm SATA2
- HDD Seagate 500Gb 7200 rpm SATA2
- HDD WD 1Tb 7200 rpm SATA2
- VGA ASUS EN8800GTS 512Mb
Tks in advance

I think yes, maybe I miss some info.
So, from the beginning
- I do an image of my system drive (with no partitions) and save it on another drive
- I restart the computer (Start/Close session/Reboot) booting from windows DVD, the purpose is to format the HDD and install a brand new windows
- The windows setup is not succesfull from the beginning, there is something in my PC that stuck the windows installation
- Rebooting I have an MBR error, so I insert Acronis rescue disk and boot from there
- Restore the image I previously did, MBR included
- When the program finish, I hit OK on the message "Recovery done succesfully"
- Close the Acronis window and the PC reboot
At this point I have that windows screen I mention before (for your convenience I attached a similar image)
Choosing to "Start windows normally" everything goes with no problems.
Here was borne my question asked before, why everytime I restore any image I have to face on that window?
I'll try also to switch back on ATI 2010 and try the same, if it'll works better I'll waste the 2011 version
Tks in advance

After the restore is completed, remove the CD so the computer boots without the CD inserted.
If you continue to get safe mode during boot, you may have to use your Windows install disk and choose repair.
Or, perhaps I am not understanding your situation.

No.
Originally my system boot ALWAYS correctly, without that window I attached in my previous post.
That black window during boot I have it after an Acronis image restored ONLY

Was the backup image you restored created while booted into Windows (a "live" image)? If so, that can sometimes cause that type of problem, though I think it's usually handled/fixed in the restore.
Does the problem also happen with an image created while booted to the TI CD?

Hello, tks for the answer.
The images were always created from windows, I never try to do an image booting from the CD.
I'll try also in that way, but why an image created from windows give me always that screen, bug?
I'll let to know what's happen from the CD

andyzan,
You should be able to make this dialog box go away by booting on the Windows installation DVD and choose repair startup. YOu might have to do a couple of passes.

So, you think there's something wrong in the MBR that windows normally doesn't recognize in daily use but TI yes during cloning the HDD

It only happens once after you reboot after a full restore, yes? If so, don't worry about it. When windows boots, it' isn't sure if something has gone wrong (it hasn't) and once you boot up, the "prob" should go away.

Yes, as described at the beginning, chhosing Start Windows normally everything go on correctly, my doubt was why I have that kind of screen after a full reboot, never happen before...
I try also an MBR repair with win DVD (startup repair, fixmbr, fixboot, rebuildBcd) but with no success

You don't need to do any kind of repair. You can just select boot normal and that's it. The warning flag will be cleared and the warning will go away.
Here's what's happening: When you did your backup, windows was running and that's the image you restored to the disk. But when windows boots it looks for a flag that says it was shut down normally -- it sets that flag when it shuts down and if that flag isn't set, it assume it didn't shut down normally and offers the boot choice screen you are seeing. You made the backup while windows was running so the image doesn't have the flag set. So the first time you boot after restore, windows thinks that it wasn't shot down properly last time it ran. But it's fine.
I think newer version of ATI force a reset of the flag when they do a restore. But you do the same thing when you tell it to load normally.

That's make sense, but until I was using ATI 2010 never happen, and I did the HDD images always from windows....
So, if from 2010 to 2011 version there is a mistake like that, for sure I'll not be curious to do an upgrade to the 2012 version
Tks for the explanation, very clear and useful
My best regards

I think it was just an oversight in the coding, relatively benign, at least once your heart stops pounding and you know what it is ;)
