ATI 2013 could read a .tib created with ATI 2015

Thread needs solution

So, I have ATI 2015 on my newest Dell, with Win 8.1. With it- I created a file/folder backup (of all my MS Office files) over my home network to my older Dell, which has ATI 2013 on it and Vista OS.

I then clicked on the .tib file on the old Dell and was surprised that it could open the backup file and see all the files within it. I realize that the only reason this would work at all is that ATI installs a process that allows viewing the contents of a .tib file. I haven't tried accessing the .tib file from within the ATI 2013 program- I suspect it wouldn't work- or it wouldn't be able to restore files from the .tib to a new location on the old Dell.

I've hesitated updating ATI 2013 to ATI 2015 because the old Dell now has a Crucial MX 100 SSD- and I've read the thread in this forum saying it could be a problem. But at least it's nice that I can still access the files within the backup just by clicking on it, though from an older version.

I'm just very surprised that it worked!

Acronis guarantees backwards compatibility, but since 2013, it is possible to open TIB files with versions older than the ones that have created the file. Most likely this indicates there has been no change in the file structure.
You could have issues though in the logic that the application uses to restore the content, in particular because these past couple of years a lot of changes in the area of disk layouts and even disk interfaces on motherboards.
So, while you can browse the TIB file within Windows, it doesn't tell you that you could restore on a blank disk properly.

Pat, I'm sure you're right that it will not be possible to do a restore. So, I could update ATI on my old Dell- though now I'm concerned about the above mentioned problem with a certain SSD drive. I suppose if I try it and it doesn't work- I could always do a full restore on that Dell- I've done a full restore on several PCs over the years and I'm fairly confident in that process but I do find it very nerve wracking. If Acronis is aware of a definite problem with installing ATI 2015 on that SSD- they should publicly mention it. I think the author of that thread said that this can happen on W8 or W10. I'm still using Vista on that Dell, so maybe that problem wouldn't occur. Of course, I shouldn't have to worry about something like this- it should work, or if not, it should not mess up the system, which I think is what happened according to that author.

You *might" be able to do a restore, I don't really know. You can definitely try and do the full restore as you said.

But remember, you would always do a restore from the recovery medium anyway, so unless you lost support for your computer with the new recovery medium, you'd use the 2015 version of that medium anyway...

Then you can still *produce* the backups with older versions.

Or simply, you continue using 2013 on this older Dell for backups and restores... If it works, why update to 2015?
