ATI 2014 Cannot Delete Old Backup Versions

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to delete an old backup version. I follow these instructions:

On the Backup and recovery tab, find the corresponding backup box and click the Recover button or click the gear icon and then click Recover files (in case of a disk backup).

In Backup explorer, right-click on the time line the version you want to delete, and then click Delete version.

This opens a window that asks "Do you want to delete the selected version and all dependent versions"

I click "Delete Anyway" and I get a large empty Window. Nothing else happens no messgaes, errors or deleted files. I've let this wndow sit there for 5 minutes. (the files I'm tryimg to delete are only 832 MB in size)

Any idea on how to actually delete old versions?
Attached are screen prints of the last two windows that open.
Thanks.

Stefan,

Are these images made by or 2014?

Have you tried making a repair install of 2014?

What OS are you using?

Have you stopped any Acronis Services in Windows Services.msc?

Do you have any 3rd party file managers or InCD or similar.

Images were created by ATI2014

No, I'll try the repaur install and let you know the results.

What OS are you using?
Windows 7 64 bit

Have you stopped any Acronis Services in Windows Services.msc?
No.

No.

I did a repair install. Here are the results.

The "blank" window no longer shows up. However what happens now is:

After confirming the delete, I get no messages or confirmation. The time line still shows all versions. If I exit the Recover window and reopen it the "deleted" versions on the time line are gone. However the files are not physically deleted from my drive, so that when I reopen the Recover window again, it shows the "deleted" versions in the time line again.

For some reason the delete function is not actually deleting my files.

I saw a similar issue when trying to delete a consolidated version of a backup from the timeline. It couldn't be deleted successfully - my clicks were just ignored with no visual feedback. The backup job on the main screen at one point seemed to show to correct number of backups within the set, but as soon as I ran another backup the one I supposedly deleted was added back to the total. At no point did True Image ever manage to actually delete the file concerned. I assumed it was due to consolidation having been run first, and the fact that pretty much anything you do with the consolidation feature gets True Image into a very confused state. But from what you're saying, it sounds like even the basic delete function itself is dysfunctional.

I haven 't done any consoldation. The backup is "Incremental" with 3 Incremental versions between the Full backup. I tried deleting the Incremental version versions and that works, the file is removed and it is removed from the Time line. I cannot however delete the Full version. I currently have two full versions, is there some setting that determines how many full versions must exist before one can be deleted?

Further to my earlier post, I find that if I delete each incremental - newest to oldest - I can delete those back ups. However, I cannot delete the initial full backup which makes me think there is a size issue (full incremental in this case is 366GB). Can anyone shed any light on this?

It's a bug. See my post #45328. Apparently the issue has existed since at least the previous version of ATI.

I am using the 2014 Version, also. I started a Delete job last night about 7 or 8 PM. It is now after 3 PM today and the job is still sitting there, looping or whatever it is doing. I do not know how to tell the progress of a running program, other than in Task Manager and it just shows True Image "running." I tried this Delete job by following the Manual explicitly, Section 5.8.9 Deleting Backups & Back Versions. I do not know what to do. It's still running and I am afraid to stop the job (via Task Manager is the only way I know how).

I was hoping to delete everything, full and incremental backups, since the beginning, last March, when I purchased ATI2014. On the Backup & Recovery Tab, I chose the only backup box that showed the name of the original backup, which shows a size of 630 gb. That backup was highlighted. I then clicked on the Gear icon to open the Operations Menu and clicked on Delete. When prompted, I chose to Delete the Backup COMPLETELY. It says this will delete the full backup and all subsequent incremental or differential versions, which is exactly what I want. My external drive is full of my backups and I just want one backup anyhow (a complete Image, the reason I chose ATI). I just want to start all over again with this program.. IF I can get to that point!

I run Win7 SP1, 64 bit. Thanks to anyone who can tell me what to do with this thing!

Well, I have an update to my previous post. I decided, after GroverH said that a backup deletion should only last minutes, to go ahead & stop my looping delete job using Task Manager. Then I checked my Acronis Explorer and all the files were gone under the Program folder but the Partition files were still there. So, I went back to the Backup & Recovery Tab and deleted the most recent first and on backward to the end of all the Partition files, using the same method of the Gear icon & choosing Delete & then choosing to delete completely all files (not worded exactly but that's the gist). It successfully deleted them all. I then went into the remaining box on the BU & Rec tab and clicked on the Restore button and another Restore button and it told me it could find no backup files on my computer to Restore. SO, hopefully, I've successfully cleaned all backup files out and can now start over again.

If anyone sees a hitch for me or something else I should check, I'd appreciate you telling me what to do and I'll be happy to do so, as I'm not a Guru at backups, but I've had lots of experience on computers and can certainly follow instructions! :-) Thanks much.
