ATI 2014 - Windows XP Mode

Thread needs solution

Making full backups using ATI 2014.  I have a Windows XP Mode virtual drive.  The first time I completed a backup, two backups were made.  One was C: drive the other was called Windows XP Mode Base.  Is that the XP Mode Base the virtual drive?  If I restore the drive, do I restore both backups?  Is the data saved in the virtual drive contained in the XP Base Mode or is it in my C: drive?  Why is there not a XP Base Mode not created during each backup?

Thank you.

Hello,

Acronis would only make one actual backup when you select to backup to entire Windows OS drive, therefore I suspect that the second backup you are seeing for Windows XP Mode Base is a Microsoft .VHD image which Acronis has picked up and possibly added to your backup task list.

See the ATIH 2014 User Guide reference VHD images

See the Microsoft TechNet article Configuring and using Windows XP Mode which describes this product.

I would assume that your Drive C: full Acronis backup image will also include your full Windows XP Mode virtual system and virtual disk(s) .VHD's unless you have specifically told ATIH 2014 to exclude *.VHD files types.

There will be no XP Base Mode backup during each backup because Acronis did not create the .VHD image file.
