ATI 2015 Hangs Shortly After Starting Backup

Thread needs solution

I am running Windows 10 (slowly) on an Inspiron Mini 1018 laptop.

Every time a backup is started, it gets to about 9 Mb processed, appears to write to the external (USB) hard drive, and hangs.

I tried backing up to another PC on the network, and the same thing happens.

Any suggestions?

Walt, there can be a number of reasons for the problem you are seeing.

There may be errors on the source or destination drives being used - try running CHKDSK /F /R to ensure there are no bad sectors etc.

There may be a Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) issue - this is the service used under the covers by ATIH to create a snapshot of the data being backed up.  See post: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/45832#comment-346558 which has the following advice from one of the Acronis Support engineers:

It is also possible to disable VSS usage for a particular backup task without touching Windows VSS service itself:

1) open the folder where your backups settings are saved: C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts

2) each file there stores settings for particular backup job. Open files one-by-one in Notepad, or open latest modified file (if you have just modified your task), until you find the one that has backup name on 5th line, e.g. MyBackups

3) click Edit - Replace and replace use_vss="true" with use_vss="false"

4) save changes and close the file

Thanks, Slava

Lastly, please download a copy of the Log File Viewer app and use this to check for any messages being written to the Acronis log files, in particular, the Service logs associated with your backup tasks.
