ATI 2015 - is it really as bad as everyone says?

Thread needs solution

I'm a happy ATI 2011 through 2013 user.

I've been looking at upgrading to 2015 primarily so that I can have continuous backups (to Synology NAS) running on my Windows and Mac systems. This is not a feature I've used before - basically just used ATI for backup images of system drives.

Is the new ATI really as bad as the forum posts indicate? Are problems mainly restricted to the imaging side of things or are they also prevalent in the file and folder backup functionality? Are issues getting fixed by Acronis or being ignored (sorry - loaded question I know) and are these just typical early version issues, or symptomatic of more profound problems?

Sorry if those questions are open to multiple interpretations and implicitly subjective answers, but I'm shocked at the negative reports flying around, and just want to try and get a handle on how bad it really is.

Thanks in advance for any feedback or advice.

I am now a user of 2015 and it is working fine for me to go backups on my Synology NAS. I was looking forward to have wireless support on the Linux recovery CD. From my experience, ATI running on the recovery CD can connect to my wireless network, but the IP assignment doesn't work well and it is not capable of finding the computers on my home network. If you have an Ethernet connection to your NAS, it should be as good as 2014.

ATI 2015 enables easy image backups to the Acronis cloud, but you don't really need this if you have a NAS.

I would say that if your hardware doesn't require the latest software from Acronis, you can safely continue to use 2014. 2014 had many features (that I never use) that were removed from 2015.

BTW, I backup my Synology NAS using idrive.com, and it works great!

Thanks Pat.

Mac support in 2015 is one of the reasons for wanting to make the upgrade. Connections to the NAS are all ethernet, so Wireless issues don't affect me.

All I want is a reliable continuous data protection solution which is cross-platform and supports a NAS based private-cloud, which ATI 2015 appears to offer. Imaging functionality is a definite bonus, but somewhat less essential in my case. It's just hard to make the commitment when one reads such extensive negative reports here and elsewhere.

Thanks again for your help.

Looks like Mac support is a bit of a joke.

I'm testing the trial versions on PC and Mac, and they bear practically no resemblance to each other. From what I can see, the PC version is fully fledged as expected, offers full system, disk/partition and file/folder backups. The Mac version is not the same software - it's a very basic volume imaging application with none of the file/folder and other backup options that True Image PC offers.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong. Personally I think the on-site marketing of the Mac version is highly misleading. It implies the software is the same or very similar )in terms of functionality) to the PC version, which it simply is not.

Jules, I have no knowledge of the dual functionality of Ti 2015 as I don't have a Mac. However the 2015 PC version is VERY difficult to comprehend. The complexity and functionality takes a while to sinks in but as it's used a few times it does the job. There seems to be a huge effort to "modernize" the look and to accommodate 'cloud' storage. Designed by geeks for geeks.

I upgraded from 2013 and wish I had stayed there as it worked flawlessly. My needs are simple, just back up my system reliably, simply, quickly, and without hassle. 2015 may well function as designed but the design needs an overhaul, at least for slower learners. In several months I have had no updates even though requested. It seems Ti is quite happy with the way 2015 works.
