ATI 2015 restore operation is far much slower than 2014

Thread needs solution

I had to restore my data from backup (that had been backed up by version 2015) of 90GB size.
ATI 2015 estimated it takes 11hrs.... I assumed it was wrong and left it go and went to bed, and in the morning i found that it is still on the midpoint.
then I uninstalled 2015 and reinstalled 2014 instead and did the restore. Wow it finished in less than 2hrs.
I have changed nothing but the version of ATI.
Core i7 6GB Win7 Ultimate x64 / USB 3.0 external HDD(backup source).
Looks like ATI 2015 is working on USB 2.0 mode, but I can't find any place for the setting change.

I am going to stay with version 2014 for the time being.

Hello

I can confirm that for (partial) file restore. On a brand new DELL M4800 / Win 7 x64 / RAID 0 2 x 1TB SSD and external USB3.0 Backup source.

ATI 2015: 3.2MB/s
ATI 2014: 49.5MB/s

(measured using the Windows Resource Monitor on the same, very large file being restored; with small files both are lower)

A whopping factor of 15 just from downgrading to ATI 2014. Exactly the same hardware and OS/driver environment. And for a 1TB restore this really, really mattered.

Furthermore I have experienced the ATI 2014 GUI going completely black for ~15 minutes, when the restore was started. When it finally came back, the animation worked the wrong way, arrow pointing from computer to backup drive and dots moving in the wrong direction. One gets the impression that a backup is running, not a restore. Also there is no indication of partial file selection and changed destination folder, suggesting a full overwrite. That's quite unsettling I must say, to fear your only backup is overwritten. A restore situation is already a "not funny" situation where you desperately want to salvage your precious data. A backup program should not create more reason for concern.

After reading this post here, I tried to downgrade to ATI 2014. The product is still available for download (good!). However the installer asks for a serial number and the ATI 2015 serial does not work. Also if you try to get a trial license on-line, it will immediately redirect you to the ATI 2015 version.

On the plus side I must note that the support staff (through on-line chat) was very friendly and professional (and available on a Sunday!). After having described my problem I was issued a ATI 2014 trial license. A permanent downgrade request was forwarded to management.

Personally I also prefer the complex ATI 2014 GUI over the "dumbed down" ATI 2015 one. The new GUI hides a lot of essential information and options away from easy access. I doubt that this product is in the market of the "dumbest users". ATI makes only sense, if you have a lot of data and need a professional solution with fine grained control, such as fast incremental backups etc. Otherwise you would probably just stick with Windows Backup or one of the solutions given away with external hard disks.

At least there should be a choice of GUI style.

If Acronis staff reads this and is interested in resolving the speed issue, I'm glad to offer more info about my system. Please contact me.
