ATI backup file created/validate from bootdisk, now in recovery most files missing
Ok, so one of our employees system was on its last legs, so we made a TIB file of the entire disk to a network share. The file was validated after backup and all was assumed good.
Now, two weeks pass... we've had time to rebuild the system and do a fresh install and want to recover the non-operating system files back onto the system (ie personal documents, pictures, etc). Well this is where our problem starts....
The TIB file is 375gb in size... the archive has been copied to a local drive and validation has been done. Yet when we try to mount the drive, D, it says it's corrupt. Ok, so we try and get individual files off... there are a bunch of files in the root of D so we try and grab some. No go...
ok, we try a folder that should have recoverable stuff and again...nothing.
we are now looking at a completely useless backup image that, even though it shows files etc in some folders, nothing is recoverable.
yes, i've tried the same boot disk and it too only recovers empty folders (recovery time <1s)... i've tried different systems, different file locations, and they all fail....
our other archives all work like a charm... just this one doesn't... could the HDD have been too close to death and corrupted all the data going into the archive??? and then even with validation the dead files 'looked' ok to acronis...
are we SOL on data recovery ?
so, any help would be GREATLY appreciated...
thanks
mark

reviewed... basically done all that
tuttle wrote:Also validate the .tib image. I know you say it validates, but do it again just to be sure. If it validates, it may be as I suspect that the image is good but it's an image of bad data due to failing drive.
redone for SnG's.... retried steps above.... all same result...
so i must concur that the system backed-up a failed disk to a valid image... leading to corrupt files... now i wonder... if i take that good image of corrupt data and put it o9n a se0ondary drive... boot to windows... the run chkdsk... it might find something... doubtful but an idea
