ATI failing to duplicate a drive

Thread needs solution

I used ATI to clone one SSD to another, same size capacity, but the clone didn't work. It didn't copy the boot info so when I went to boot off the new drive, it said no OS was present. Disk Management shows there is no boot record on the drive.

I did the install from a third drive. in other words, I booted off one drive, the two SSDs were set up as secondary drives, and told ATI which would be the source and destination drives. No luck. I did this twice, and it would not work.

Any help is appreciated.

Andy, welcome to these user forums.

Please see KB document: 56634: Acronis True Image 2016: Cloning Disks which, whilst is for the 2016 version, is still relevant for 2015 and gives guidance on how this process is recommended to be performed.

Does your source SSD normally boot on the system where you did the cloning?  If not, then are there any other drives in the system where it is usually installed and boots?  The reason for my question is that it is possible that the boot information is held on a different drive.

Andy, thanks for the further information.

Given that you were doing the cloning from a third drive booted in Windows then there is the possibility of interference in the process from a number of sources, including the Windows OS and any installed security applications.

The recommended method of cloning is to do so outside of Windows by using the Acronis bootable Rescue Media which then ensures no interference from any other sources.

Andy, you can create the Acronis rescue media from within the application by going to the Tools section of the product, this can be created on CD/DVD or USB stick.

The alternative is to sign-in to your Acronis account, assuming that you have the product serial registered to this, and you can download an ISO (CD image) file of the last version of the rescue media that you can burn to CD.

Andy, thank you for the feedback, glad it worked for you.
