ATI HD 2013 cloning failed

Thread needs solution

ATI HD 2013 was installed sucessfully yesterday.

Tried to clone my 40GB HDD system partition from Windows 8 64-bit to my new unallocated 60GB ADATA SSD via USB2.0 (powered adapter)
There was 35GB of data selected.

Cloning failed.

Event Log says.
Failed to prepare operations. Error code: 3 'Internal error: script is inconsistent'.
Operation has completed with errors.

Any ideas?

Ross,
I'm not clear on ATI HD2013. Is this ATIH2013 or vendor specific offering?

Please see this KB article. Might pertain to you.

Your method for cloning is not what acronis or the MVP's suggest. The target disk should be installed in its final destination.

However, cloning is not the preferred method for copying a disk. A disk image back up, restoring each partition is much safer and the preferred method. This is done with recovery media.

MVP Grover's Guides should help;

My ATI HD2013 is via a license provided with my SSD from ADATA. It is not a 'full version'.

The pamphlet said "The program supports external disk connections". Doesn't this imply USB, since it didn't specify eSATA?

I can't install the target disk in it's final destination, as it is a DELL GX620 SFF computer with only one SATA port and one mini-IDE port.

I will try the image method then, as I have enough space to do that.
I can direct the image to another partition. But it says the 'partition' backup option can only be used on 'dynamic disks', but mine is a 'basic disk' and I can't image the whole 500GB using the 'disk' backup option.

It has let me backup C: to another volume, making a 14GB .tib file
Any idea if this will be useful?

Is that .tib file going to be of any use, as the documentation said it would only work on a dynamic disk.
Should I convert it to dynamic and repeat the backup?

Ross,
I found a manual for your product on the ADATA website
http://us.adata-group.com/AppStore/ATIH2010HD_userguide_en-US.pdf

Section 7.3.2 describes Full Disk Image Back Up

Section 13 on page 81 talks about creating bootable rescue media. Again, this is the preferred method.

I would make a full disk image back up and restore these partitions one by one as I outlined previously. This is safer, and gives you more options from a recovery standpoint since you have a complete copy of the drive, individual portions and files.

If you decide to clone (and I'll say for the last time, I don't recommend this) you would put the source disk in the USB enclosure and the target (SSD) into the laptop to perform the clone. While this is not what that "cute" girl in the ADATA website video does, this is safer and is preferred.

* Acronis True Image HD does not support dynamic disks.
Also, some early versions of 2013 have known compatibility issues with windows 8, but your version may include updates which we are not aware of.
