ATI HOME 10 "Failed to determine corresponding partition for path"..."Backup operation will not snapshot that path".

Thread needs solution

Hi all,

I'm running Acronis True Image Home 10.0, build 4942, on Windows XP 32bit.

Acronis is running on a machine (running Windows XP) we're using as a backup server. We are using it to backing up folders from four pc's on the network onto the backup server. The backup server is using mapped network drives to access the folders on each pc. I never noticed it before, but we're getting these warning messages in the log file:

"event code="0" id="9" level="3" message="Failed to determine corresponding partition for path '\\J-girard\JMG Documents\'.
Backup operation will not snapshot that path." module="11" time="1276638887" /"

Can anyone help me with this issue?

The complete log file is attached if you would like to see it.

Did i ask a stupid question or is everyone stumped?

I did search the forum for similar posts but did not see any referred to my situation.

It appears that the data pulled from the workstations is being backed up but it worry's me that i don't understand what the error message means.

If you're the same Nelsonm, you asked the same question a year ago yesterday on the Wilders forum. Have you had the problem all this time?

Acronis Support (old forum) wrote:
The error message "Backup operation will not snapshot that path" you have mentioned is not error, it is warning message. Please note that as indicated Acronis True Image 10.0 Home cannot use snapshot technology while backing up network shared folders. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that in this case open files will be backed up correctly.

If you would like to use Acronis True Image 10.0 Home to back up network shared folder please make sure that the files/folders are not used by another programs.

MudCrab, Thanks for responding.

Yes, i'm the same guy. I did not remember i had posted a similar thread there and i didn't search the Wilders forum.

In any case, the Wilders forum responder to my old post did not elaborate on what the warning message was for as you did. Obviously, the apapisetup.msi solution i used in the Wilders forum was not related to my issue. But I did find other Wilders posts that gave me the answer.

My apologies for not looking deeper.

It would of just been easier for ATI to log two un-cryptic messages:
1. File:"???" or folder:"???" was skipped due to file or folder being locked or opened. (it would help to know which objects where skipped)
2. Acronis True Image 10.0 Home cannot use snapshot technology while backing up network shared folders. Refer to help about VSS Shadow Copy (Volume Snapshot Service or Volume Shadow Copy Service or VSS ).

So it looks like i would have to purchase the on of the enterprise products in order to use snapshot technology while backing up network shared folders?

Thanks for your help.

No problem. I found that particular Acronis response in an older thread than yours.

I'm not familiar with the corporate program (Backup & Recovery 10 Advanced Workstation) in that area as I only have the standard version. I suspect it may be the same except that it can trigger the remote snapshot for images. I'm not sure about files & folders type backups.

Ok MudCrab, thanks again.

I'll just call Acronis and ask their presales about the issue and which products, if any, support triggering of remote snapshot for files/folders and maybe images.
