ATI2010: "Missing Operating System" after restore

Thread needs solution

To be on the safe side, I wanted to test if I really could restore a backup.
But after restoring the Win7 backup (including MBR) the system does not boot anymore:
"Missing operating system"!

What I did:

1) installed Windows 7

2) made an image backup of the Windows 7 partition with ATI2010 (booted from USB stick)

3) installed Fedora 12 from live CD
-> using grub as boot loader with options for Win7 and Fedora

4) restored the backup made in step 1 (including MBR)

I expected that now Windows 7 would boot without the GRUB OS selector.
But all I got is the "missing operation system" message.

What did I do wrong?

Did you try to use the Repair feature on the Win 7 installation DVD?
In making the Image, did you put the check mark on Disk 1? I believe the process defaults to only the OS partition.

The "Missing Operating System" message is contained in the MBR. You would normally see this message if no partition is marked as "Active".

Probably when you restored the Windows 7 partition, you did not restore it as "Active". You could either repeat the restore, this time making sure that the partition is active, or you could use any partition management program, including a Live Linux CD or even GRUB to set the active flag on the Windows 7 partition.
