ATI2011 6597 Buggy with "Operations are in Progress" on Shutdown...."

Thread needs solution

I've just installed build 6597 and am having an issue where all backups created have the validation setting active even if you try to set it to "No Schedule" and then use that as the default settings..... a new backup still has the schedule set to once a month !!!!

This often causes problems where by when you shutdown the PC after a full back up you get a message saying:-

"Operations are in progress please wait. The machine will be turned off automatically after the operations are complete"

It can take aaagggggess for it to complete - well over half an hour in some cases - is there a way to stop this problem. I want the PC to shutdown normally please..

What on earth is going on Acronis.... is it indexing? or validating? or something else? and if so how can I stop it.. surely others have experienced this too ???????

I just purchased the SW today and had the same problem. Please list exactly how to unselect the validation on shutdown in settings so I can get on with my life.

I too have the same problem. I back it all up and, after I shut down my computer, the program will keep going with the same message above. I have to force my computer to shut down. I do not want to force a shut down but I do not want to deal with the program taking over my computer unless I asked it to validate which I assume it is doing. Last time took over 2 hours and still did not shut off. That is when I had to force the PC to shut down and then start Windows normally.

I have just updated to the latest version and I am getting the same problem. Installed 2 days ago and could not get the computer to shut down. Same problem last night but I let it continue it's "operations". Gotup this morning 9 hours later and it was still going through operations in progress.
Looking for an answer please.

This happened to me some days ago when I first used TI2011 I had inadvertently not excluded validations from my backup schedule. I do not need them because of my method of working. The backup ran at 1300 hrs as scheduled. When I tried to shut down at about 2300hrs I had the same message that a process was running and the computer would shut down automatically when it was finished. After about one hour I had to to a forced shutdown.

I am no longer troubled by this nonsense as I have found , after some poking around in the terrible GUI, where to turn off validations. This solution will be of no use to those who like to run automatic validations.

I have the same problem on my laptop. I need to shut it down to go to a meeting and it gets stuck in "Operations are in progress". Very unacceptable. I always end up forcing a hard shutdown because I simply cannot wait.

What should I do when my selected Samsung 500gb GS Portable Drive requires"cannot backup to non-NTFS Particiation"?

There really is only one solution. Uninstall Acronis and get another product. I struggled with Version 10 on my last machine and gave up then. Foolishly I went back to Version 11 on my new machine and from the time I did so I have had this problem. There is nothing I can find on Acronis's site about this and my searches elsewhere merely point out many people, with the same or a similar problem, wrestling with it over several years. Good luck with it - I am outta here! Won't get fooled again.

Sure wish I had read this stuff before buying 2011. I was real happy with 2010. I have upgraded from XP to Win 7. When I was finally all set up I decided it was time to start regular backups. I installed ATIH 2011 and took the latest version online at the prompt(why did I even buy the disc?). Now I have 2 - 3 hour shut downs every time. If you wait long enough it will finish. Each time I start back up I check my back ups and sure enough there is another one. I spent 3 or 4 hours chatting with Acronis. I don't think the rep ever really understood the problem. He keep at it like ATHI was shutting the computer down after a back up. If I was smart enough to figure out 2010 you'd think I could figure out 2011, but nooooooooooooooo. It should not be this complicated! I'll give it one more try then I think I'll take the advice posted above. CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, this is an issue. As others posted above, the workaround is to:
- disable validation for that backup:
- go the backup options,
- go to the "advanced" tab,
- clear "validate after backup"
- enable scheduled validation,
- in the validation schedule, uncheck all boxes in the advanced settings,
- click on Do Not Schedule
- Before clicking on OK, go back the "backup scheme" tab of the backup options
- Click OK
- Save your backup
- verify that your computer shuts down normally in general and after your backup,
- if OK, try to schedule a validation separately from the backup and reassess. Do not select "validation after backup" if your backup is to run upon shutdown event.
- if you want to backup and shutdown, create a regular backup task with validation after backup, add the "shutdown -s" post command.

Same issue as everyone else who seems to have purchased this product.... 'operations are in progress. please wait..' after loading and first backup.

X201Tablet, W7 OS which was working perfectly well before purchasing and loading this software...

I'll execute the steps provided by other victims. Thanks for posting them.

One question... is it okay to shut my machine down after an hour or so of having given it up to this software?

Hi
"The workaround is to disable validation for that backup" doesn't work for me.
I tried to disable validation by following the above instructions as closely as possible but it doesn't seem to repair the issue.
I only use Acronis to clone my hard drive nothing else so I struggled to follow the instructions given I don't do "backups" (just clone).
Sometimes on shutting down/restarting my Windows7 Professional machine the ""Operations are in Progress" message stays up for a minute or so and I just wait. Other times after waiting 3 minutes or more and seeing no disk activity I know it's going to take a lot longer so I just power off.
I have only cloned since I started using Acronis True Image 8.0 (4864-11) back in mid 2006.
I have religiously upgraded every time a new release became available because my cloned backup drive is very important to me and has saved my bacon on many occasions.
Any assistance will be appreciated. Should I go back to the 2010 version? I'm happy to do so 'cause that version worked just fine for all I use Acronis for.
Cheers, Mark.

Mark,

If you have no backup scheduled with validation, it is possible that you have a rogue script still running. A good way of making sure this is not the case is to:
- download Acronis Schedmgr.exe, launch it from an elevated command prompt
- type "task zap": this will delete any schedule for any task, but does not delete the backup task itself from ATI (just the schedule).
- go to c:\programdata\Acronis\TrueImagehome\Scripts. Right click on each script file left if any, and everiy it corresponds to a desired task definition. Delete any unwanted script.

If the issue subsists after this, I am running out of ideas. You might want to stick with your previous version for the time being. Use the ACronis cleanup utility to clean your installation after the uninstall if you go this way.

Hi
Many thanks. I no longer see the annoying "Operations are in Progress" message.
I Googled to find and downloaded Acronis Schedmgr.exe, launched it and typed "task zap".
Next, I went to c:\programdata\Acronis\TrueImagehome\Scripts where I found 2 script files.
Given I don't use scheduling I just deleted the 2 files.
That was it! I restarted Windows7 several times and didn't see the annoying "Operations are in Progress" message. Great!
So all's good again and I'm a happy camper!
Thanks, Mark.

OK. I can delete all scheduled backups and that might end this annoying problem, but what do I do to backup my machine? Do it manually? That is a PIA. Is there anyone from Acronis who can comment on this problem? Are they working on a fix or are we just left on our own?

Once you have deleted your scheduled task, you can reschedule them. Make sure that you verify the validation setting. By defaut, validation is scheduled once a month, but default on the same day and date you set your backup. Verify this is what you want to do. Also make sure you want to keep the advanced settings in the validation schedule window (in particular run only at idle and run at startup if scheduled validation is missed: I would *not* select these options).

Hello all,

Thank you for your posts and comments.

I would really appreciate if you can check my post here about this shut down issue.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

It looks like I am one of the lucky ones with this "Operations are in progress" problem. Mine only stays in that state, on shutdown, for about five minutes. Most of the posts on this forum seem to be about Acronis True Image 2011 and Windows 7. But mine is different. Here is my setup:

Windows Visa Home Premium
Acronis True Image Home 2010 (Build 7154) with Plus Package

When I first installed ATI 2010, this problem never showed up. This could be because I never run scheduled tasks. After a few weeks, I downloaded Acronis Drive Monitor, and installed it. Of course, right away, ADM wants the user to set up a backup schedule, so I set a weekly backup schedule. Soon I began to see "Operations are in progress" messages, intermittently, on shutdown.

After taking a look at this forum, I decided to disable scheduled backups in ADM, to see if it would correct the problem. Unfortunately, it did not. So now I have decided to uninstall ADM, to see if that will correct the problem. Murphy must be lurking somewhere close by, because I cannot find a way to uninstall ADM!! I could uninstall it manually, but I would rather do it in a more gracefull way, if possible. Can someone tell me how?

Thanks!

The problem can show up when a task (a backup or a validation) is scheduled with options to wait until the computer is idle, or to run on shutdown, or to run on startup when the task is missed. You should examine your products for any such option in the schedule: check backup schedules and options, check validation schedules and options.

In doubt, use the acronis schedule manager to zap all your schedule tasks. This will make sure that no task is scheduled any longer.

Some users have reported that setting the power options to never sleep automatically solved a similar problem.

Hi,

My problem is solved:
My problem was: When PowerDown my system would hang FOREVER saying: “Operations are in progress, please wait.”
For many months I was not able to do those updates which needed PowerDown. Since I was NOT actually running Acronis when Powering down I did not suspect that it was related to Acronics until I found this problem in this forum.

I then used “Process Explorer” to see what was running before I shut down. There were 2 programs from Acronis: afcdpsrv.exe and schedul2.exe running. They were both called by “services”. Services was called by wininit.exe. wininit.exe was called by <non existing process>. By using the Process ID (PID) I found out that wininit.exe was called by a program “Cacheman”. Cacheman was called by winint.exe, (wininit.exe was called by <non existing process>.) So, to me it looked like a loop forever. I uninstalled the program Cacheman and the problem was gone.  I can now power down my PC and get the updates installed.

I hope this can help Acronis and all of you to get the right solution for the problem.

I have had it with this product. Version 10 was doing most of the job OK, but failed to run archive cleanup tasks. Then the Exchange module does not work with exchange 2010. (It's getting late into 2011 guys!) Tech support promises all this is fixed in ABR11! Since installing ABR11 daily backups have about a 30% success rate. The dashboard is useless as it merrily reports all is well, but then when you connect to individual machines there are jobs that have been 'needing attention' for days! These jobs will not complete no matter what you do. One machine has not completed an Acronis backup since June! Windows Backup works! Backup for Workgroups works! I have been working with tech support for endless hours over the past two months, but for the most part it comes back to recreating another backup job with a couple different options and wait a few more days to see it has failed again. (which is the only thing it does reliably!) Now this turd has cost me a weekend because I had to crash a server 'waiting for operations to complete' over 2 hours. It did not come back up properly, and guess what? the backup was over 2 weeks out of date. Yes, it is a DC, and it was my fsmo role holder. Guess how much fun it is to get everything synced back up, not even considering the time it takes restoring 2.5 TB of data from a windows backup.
Good Lord please show me a way I can let potential victims know how bad this release is! I have been reluctant to throw away the investment spent here, but I think it is time for the bean counters to pursue refunds. With quality control this bad I can't put my job out there any longer.

I followed the following directions, except I killed the Acronis Scheduler [schedul2] instead of the Netlogon process.

http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/1935

Basically you download and install pstools to your windows home directory and then you can run pslist to view which processes are running on the remote server and then pskill to kill the process on the remote server as long as you have permissions.

Doing this allows the shutdown to continue gracefully. Yeah!

I have acronis true image 2014. I get: Operations are in progress, please wait. I am using Windows 8.1. This message goes on for hours and I have to manually shut down my computer. If I can't get this fixed, I will remove Acronis and find another imaging software. Any one have a clue.
