ATI2014 update fails after download

Thread needs solution

I am currently trying to update my ATI2014 from Build 6614 to the latest version.
The build-in update mechanism tries to download the update. When the download seems to be finished an error with the following error code occurs: 0x01410002+0x0056697C

OS is Windows 8.1 64bit.

Try going to acronis.com, logging in and going to you registered files/updates and downloading the latest version form there. then try to manually install. If it still fails, you can try deleting temporary files, rebooting and trying again. It might help to uninstall before trying to install the update but I'd save that for a last ditch effort (you have to export your settings, blah blah, it's more of a pita than an inplace update.

Downloading and installing the update from the Acronis web site worked :-)

I am just wondering why it does not work via the User Interface... even the error code does not seem to be in the knowledge base.

Ime, most of the error codes are not in the knowledge base. ATI2014 has the most reliable installer since ati 2009 but I guess it still gets thrown for a loop on a machine or two. Glad you worked it out without too much trouble. The auto installer is the best version they've made so far, but still not as rel8iable as the manual installer.

The reason for the error is once again Windows permissions. I can't tell you how many post I see here where users are experiencing similar and not so similar issues with TI being run under Windows 8, 8.1. The problem lies in the fact that you as a user do not have security permissions to access the temp directory that TI uses to download the update therfore when the install routine attempts to run it fails due to user not having permissions to perform read/write functions from the temp folder.

My suggestion is this for anyone experience this or other issues in which permissions might be the problem.

Note: You must be logged in as an administrator to perform these functions.

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the Acronis folder under Program Files or Progam Files X86
Right Click on folder and choose Properties
Choose Security tab

From here you can change permissions for access to Acronis and any child folder within the Acronis folder. I would stongly suggest that you go the full step and take owership of the Acronis folder so that you can eliminate any recurring related problems in the future. See the attached link for a full rundown on changing permissions and ownership.

Note: Procedures outlined apply to Windows 8, 8.1

Very helpful Bob. This should go in the knowledge base.

That would be nice!
