ATIH 2014 blows up as soon as it logs into "cloud"

Thread needs solution

Hello, recently our ATIH 2014 installations (2) have both been blowing up shortly after the program starts and the web account login completes:

There are so many transient issues with Acronis cloud that I figured it may just go away eventually, but it's been on/off (mostly on) for a couple of weeks now.  If I quickly cancel the login, ATHI will stay running.  Online backups still succeed (provided ATHI is able to log in and there aren't issue with the Acronis servers).  We aren't using sync functionality, however the online backups are wired into the service and account login, so there really is no workround other than what I've just described.  Also figured this issue may be affecting others and it would pop up in the forum, but not yet.

Thanks in advance for any insight/advice.  Since it's 2014 direct support isn't an option and I've read enough bad press about 2015 and later that I'm loathe to upgrade since everything works reliably under 2014 ((more or less)).

Barnyard, from a quick search on Google this looks to be a Data Execution Prevention (DEP) issue that you can 'fix' by excluding TrueImage.exe from DEP as advised in the Microsoft link below:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/3932e3eb-c034-4eb7-aa06-4a0a8e6ea493/fault-module-namestackhash0a9e?forum=w7itprogeneral

Thanks Steve, but I've already done the Google search thing and attempted to exclude TrueImage.exe from DEP.  I receive a message "This program must be run with data execution protection (DEP) enabled.  You cannot turn off DEP for this program."  I assume this is related to the fact ATIH runs with elevated permissions.

Since both of our installations (which share a common login) are blowing up only when logged in I assume it's some issue with ATIH rather than the OS, etc.  We don't run automatic updates and nothing significant has changed with the configuration of either machine.  One of them is a pseudo-"server" and therefore is quite static.  This is liable to be the end of the line with us and Acronis, quite frankly.  TOO MANY BUGS.

Hello Barnyard,

Although application crashes issues can be properly fixed only by development team and 2014 version client application is not developed anymore, you can still try to workaround the problem by resetting your cloud connection configuration data and online backup cache: make sure that no backup is running, close Acronis True Image 2014 window if it is opened, rename C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\OnlineBackup to OnlineBackup.bak, open Acronis True Image 2014 and see if the issue with crash at sign in remains.

If this does not help, you can do a fresh installation of the program by uninstalling it normally, running special cleanup utility https://kb.acronis.com/content/48668, rebooting and installing the software anew.

Regards,

Slava
