ATIH 2014 Premium: scheduling single versions does NOT overwrite old version.

Thread needs solution

Build 6688

So, I finally decided that I would schedule some backups. I set it up for single versions. Works beautifully, wakes up the computer, creates the full SINGLE VERSION image and goes back to sleep. Except that it creates multiple single versions. It doesn't overwrite the old version, it simply appends a sequential number to the end of the filename (see image).

Now, Acronis's own definition of a Single Version is: "The program overwrites a full backup version everytime"

Not happening here. I have to delete old version so that it doesn't fill up the disk space with my 60GB images.

Is this a known issue? Is there anyway to correct this? It has happened with 2 different builds.

Thanks for any ideas.

You have a better chance of success if you start over with a new task and use a custom backup scheme as per my GH11 example.
Also use a different task name and a different storage folder or sub-folder so the new backups have a new name and not mixed with the old.
The name assigned to the tib backup file will be whatever name you use for your new tasks.

You can use the task edit option "remove from list" to make the bad task be removed from your menu. Your existing tib backup files will still be there and you can delete some of them manually if you wish to recapture the storage space.

Using the GH11 as the example, be sure your new scheme name begins as "custom" as shown in the example.
If you want to keep only 1 full backup, then set the "store no more than 1". Acronis will create the B1.
The deletion of B1 will not occur until its replacement as been created so B2 Full will be createde and seconds later the B1 Full will be deletede,
so you must allow have storage space for the 2 full backups.

YOu seem to have the room. I would encourage you to set your store number to more than 1 as often time, you need a file from an old backup rather than a recent backup.

Whatever store number you use, remember to allow the extra storage space for the delayed deletion of the oldest chain.

GH11. Create Custom Full Backup Scheme w/auto cleanup....Store/Keep 4 versions (chains). Use whatever number best fits the individual needs..

Depending upon the type of backup scheme you wish to create, here is an example of each type. These can be set up for Disk image, or Partiton, or Files-folders backups. These example show how to set up automatic cleanup so the program will do the deletion after it reaches your set goal of how many chains to retain.

Editing an existing task is not recommended. Rarely does an edited task perform to user expectations. It is usually better to start with a new task using a new non-identical task name and point to a new storage sub-folder so each task has it own storage folder/sub-folder. Old task can be stopped or deleted from the task listings.

Hi Grover,

Thanks for your comments. It's encouraging to know that success is possible. I didn't edit an old task, but did use similar (not identical) names and pointed them to the same folder. It seems odd that an issue would exist because of that. I hope to have time to look into your method this weekend. I'll post back the results.

Thanks again.

Thanks for your help, Grover. Your method seems to have worked. I scheduled 2 backups of my system drive and the schedule has occurred 3 times now. System backup 2 & 3 exist. System backup one was automatically deleted. Thanks again.

Yes, I have found the backup cleaning will occur but the user has to set it up exactly and then leave it alone without any further changes.
