[ATIH2011] Failed to recover system volume
I am currently trying to recover the system volume C (from an archive to the same drive). This fails with an error message in the recovery wizzard (see below)
Here are some more details of my hard disk.
My drive consists of a WinRE (Pri), C (Pri,Act) and D(Pri) partition. C has a capacity of 43.95 GB where 3.69 are free.
I have a packup archive for C incl. MBR.
I boot with the recovery CD and select the Recovery option.
I select my archive and "recover drive or volume" as recovery method. For the recovery source I select the backuped drive incl. the partition c and the "MBR and Track 0 option"
Everything works fine until I get to the recovery wizzard page with the settings of partition C.
Here I get an error message. Since I have a German version I can not give you the original message.
It says that there is possibly not enough space on the system volume to boot the operating system after the recovery.
I tried several options and setting and did not find something useful in the forum. Why is it not possible to recover the system partition?
Edit: There seems to be a threat here which describes the problem:

But no solution :-(

Brain,
When selecting the target partition, be careful to select the correct partition. Do NOT use the drive letter C as the basis for your choice. The letter C in the bootable media may be a different partition as the C inside windows. Use partition sizes, volume names, etc to make sure the correct target partition is selected.
Look at item #3 at this link and maybe it can help.

If it doesn't work, try to recover the entire disk (all partitions included in the backup, which should be the same thing as all partitions on the system disk). You might have to create a backup of your content BEFORE that, and restore this content backup AFTER the complete disk restore, to avoid losing data.
- I already tried to recover only the C partition without MBR and Track0. It failed with the same error message.
- My archive only contains the C partition and MBR/Track0. It does not include partition D and the hidden recovery partition. Unfortunately I do not have enough external disk space to backup the whole drive. So this is (currently) not an option. But thanks for the tipü. It may be a fallback.

Thanks for the detailed description. Unfortunately I think that I have already checked all the steps incl. choosing the correct partition.
The only thing which I want to ask is:
"If the os being restored was Windows 7 or Vista or to an SSD drive, you would normally have a 1 “mb” of “free space before” partition 1."
My OS is Windows 7 but the first partition seems to be the Windows Recovery Partition.
As I stated in my post I think the problem may have something to do with the bug described in this post: http://forum.acronis.com/forum/15860
The error message is the same and the fact that my partition is also very full is also the same. I have the chance to use an ATIH 2012 recovery disc today.

The referenced 1mb free space is the space preceding the very first partitions--and is not a partition itself.

Using the ATIH 2012 Rescue Disk of a friend solved the problem. With this version the recovery worked as expected. From my point of view this is really a critical bug in ATIH 2011. Unfortunately this product strategy is really bad. Paying for an upgrade to get bugfixes for critical bugs and a fancy new GUI is not what I expect from a serious product...
Anyway thank you for your help and support in the forum!
