ATIH2011 "My Backups" list on main screen is problematic

Thread needs solution

I upgraded to ATIH 2011 from ATIH 2010 and I'm finding that the list of backups on the main screen (ATIH 2011) is really hard to manage.

  • One of my regular backups has a clone of itself that I can not remove. It says "not backed up yet" and there's nothing I can do to remove this entry. Operations->More->Remove from the list shows a warning then proceeds to do nothing.
  • My regular backup had a bunch of incremental files that I wanted to get rid of, so I attempted a consolidation. The consolidation got "stuck" part way. It continued to say it needs another 10 hours. Hard drive would spin periodically but wasn't writing to disk anymore. I had to reboot the machine to stop it.
  • After I rebooted, I deleted the partial consolidation file from the drive. A new entry (a consolidation backup) appeared on the list of backups, but I couldn't "Remove from this list" until after I rebooted again.
  • Since consolidation didn't work, how do I delete the incremental backups? The main UI screen has a "Delete" operation, but it says it will delete the settings too. I don't want to remove the whole job, just the files.
  • I did remove all the backup files from the HD, since I couldn't do that from the UI without removing settings too. Tried to rerun the backup to make a new one. This wouldn't work until after a restart had been done.

Looks like the service runs some kind of state machine on the backups that gets out of whack and doesn't fix itself, requiring a restart for lots of things. Also looks like the "remove from this list" function bails out at the first error, causing list entries to persist indefinitely.

Not backed up yet means " a scheduled backup has not yet been done. E.g., if you create a set of rules for a backup, including a schedule andthen you run that backup manually, when you load ATI the next time the backup you made will be listed separately and the instructin set will show "Not backed up yet."

If you want, you can export the instructins/settings and then import them for a new set with the same settings. That's as close as you come to copying a task/instruction set.

If you tell ATI to remove from list and the file doesn't exist, you shuld simply get an error message saying failed to delete; which is fine, the entry should then still be removed form the listed.

When yo load ATI, it does a scan for backups and puts those on the list of My Backups along with any other it had in its database (e.g., backups it found on a remote that was but is not now connected) or manually started backups.

But it sounds like you are having a specific prob related to the list that might merit chat with the Chat folks.

Hello all,

Thank you very much for your posts. Scott, I really appreciate your help.

Jay,

Please let me assist you with this.

From what I can tell, it is very likely that these issues are caused by some problems with updating to Acronis True Image 2011 Home over Acronis True Image 2010 in your specific environment, however this is not 100% certain. We will need to investigate these issues, that is why I would recommend to contact our Support team with this log so that we can assist you in resolving them.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Anton, I have downloaded the utility and created the logs as noted. Unfortunately I can't submit a support ticket. The support wizard on the Acronis website has (all day) been saying "Error, try again later" whenever I enter my order # and email address. Is there another way I can submit a ticket?

Had also the problem of a lot entries with: "not backed up yet" while upgrading from ATI10 to ATI11.

My solution was (make a copy before deleting!!):
- stop ATI2011 (only the main program)

- remove the archives.xml file in the "c:\Documents and Properties\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database" folder

AND

- remove "old" Scripts in the folder "c:\Documents and Properties\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts"

- start ATI11 and the backup list is clear (depending on how many scripts you removed)

By the way I'm running XP SP3.

Ciao
