ATIH2011 Nonstop backup and system hang???

Thread needs solution

After numerous tests, trial and error, I have a very strong suspicion that Nonstop backup of ATIH2011 (most recent version Update 3, build 6942) makes my system hang.
I have a Win7 64bit machine and some of my folders are in continuous backup to an USB drive.
If I leave my system running 24*7, it ALWAYS hangs within 24 hours. Sometimes after 20 minutes, sometimes after an hour, sometimes after 20 hours... but hang it will.
If I return to my system while it has gone in energy saving mode (only the moniter is switched off, disks are left on) moving the mouse will switch on the monitor but that is the last thing it does.
It simply FREEZES: there is nothing I can do then go for a cold start.

I find nothing in the system logbook.
Chkdsk on all drives do not show problems.

When I pause/stop the nonstop backup from running, the system simply NEVER hangs!!!!! Even after days, weeks,...

I wonder if anyone ever has experienced this... and if there would be a solution?

VIM,

NSB has shown some issues for some users. In doubt, don't use it. You can create something similar with a disk and partition backup that backs up every hour. If you want to back up more often, use Windows task scheduler to schedule backups of ATI. There are some benefits going this way:
- you will have control on retention of older versions (BTW, stay away from auto-consolidation: choose incremental backups and create a new full on a regular basis, keep only a limited number of recent versions),
- you will have more control on the backup files (naming, size, etc.)

If you move away from NSB, disable the non-stop backup service. It will disable Try&Decide also.

@Pat L: Appreciate your input...

but what's the point of software if I should "move away" from part of it's purpose?!?

I purchased 2011 just because of the NSB functionality!

BTW; I did not experience the problem on my previous Win7, 32bit machine.

Any (other) suggestions about what I might look at?

I would say there is a chance that your NSB hangs during the consolidation phase, and that might because of corrupted data or because of some hardware problem (eg memory issues).

You don't have much options with NSB. The basic troubleshooting is the following:
- delete the NSB task,
- verify that the hidden destination folder "timeline explorer storage" is deleted,
- try again.

If that doesn't take care of it, try this:
- uninstall,
- reboot,
- reinstall ACronis.

If you still have the issue, let's look at hardware:
- delete the task and try another disk as a destination,

If you still ahve the issue, run memtest86 for the whole night on your computer and see if you have issues.

@Pat L
Thanks for your patience!!! Will give your suggestions a try once I find the time.
I have already gone through the process of uninstall, reboot en reinstall on 3 occasions. Once with my Dutch version. Later I saw that the latest build of the English version was higher. Uninstalled the Dutch version to switch to the English version. When problem persisted, also uninstalled and reinstalled that English version. In vain.
Will keep informed.
