Auto Deletion of Fulls and Differentials

Thread needs solution

I have been disappointed with True Image 2013, due to a lack of a feature. I want to perform a full backup every month and then a differential every day. When the next month comes around, I want the new full replace the old full and all differentials replace the old ones without me manually deleting the old files. Can the new version do this?

Mark, welcome to these user forums.

The process for backup file management that you are describing is available in your ATIH 2013 version as well as previous and later versions.

See the ATIH 2013 User Guide: Examples of custom schemes for some examples of this being used.

For your specific file management requirement, then see from the User Guide: Backup schemes where you configure the backup scheme that you want to use, i.e. Full initial backup followed by daily Differential backups then start over again each month.

In the 'Old version cleanup rules' shown in the above user guide page, you can select the option to 'Store no more that 1 recent version chains' which will do what you are wanting, but with 1 important caveat!

Acronis will only delete old version chains when the next new version chain has been started by the creation of a new full backup image.
Differential backup files cannot be used without the Full backup file that they were based upon, so when you remove the oldest version chain, all the files for that version chain are removed, i.e. 1 x Full backup and 30/31 Differential backup files.
