Automatic cleanup not working

Thread needs solution

I have ACTI 2014 set to keep the initial backup plus the the most recent 7. The older backups are not been deleted as they should be. Any suggestions on getting this working?
Thanks

Post a picture of your backup scheme so we can see the actuals--even additionally, a picture of your storage folder might help.

If you have edited the task since its initial creation, the task will take much longer to correct to the new settings--if a correction is possible.
My recommendation is that whenever a change is necessary to the task configuration, I stop using the task and start a new task pointing to a new empty sub-folder. This may or may not be your issue--just an FYI.

Thanks for the reply. Attached is the backup scheme.
No, the task has not been edited since its initial creation
Many thanks

Yes, the number of backups displayed in your storage folder should not exceed 8 (7+1).
Do any of the names added by acronis show two number on the v separated by a dash>
such as _full6_s1_v1-1
if yes, most likely you can expect the numbering to have restarted with the v1-1 listing.

If you post a picture of the storage folder, I will be happy to look.
This example shows 4 being retained.

Thanks for the reply, I have attached a screenshot.
I look forward to your comments

Thank you Martin. The attachment has the "v1" part of the backup name hidden. Can you widen the column display so the full name appears and look whether each SD backup name has just the single V1 as the ending part of its name

All the backups appear to have random dates so my guess is that they were triggered manually.
Were these initiated via the "Backup now" option or via a desktop shortcut or how triggered?
Which version of Windows?

Thanks, I have attached a revised screen shot.
No these backups were not done manually bit were triggered by the schedule on the nominated day and time. The dates are not random the schedule is for backups to be created twice a week on Wednesdays & Sundays.

Martin,
I am at a loss to explan what is happening. None of the information I have requestes shows any out of normal except that the number of backup files does exceed your specifications.

The next step might be a complete review of the log files to confirm whether information does or does not exist which explains this behavior.
I will be glad to assist if desired.

The next step might be a re-install/repair of the existing installation. Restarting the install program will result in being offered a repair option which will overwrite the existing files.

Another option might be contact Acronis support if you are within your 30 days of free support; otherwise, I believe their charges would be $9.99 for a single instance support. If they agree or discover it to be a bug, they advertise they will not charge or will refund your support charge.

Thanks, I'll try a repair install first then I might try and recreate the task and see if that makes a difference. How would I go about manually deleting a couple of excess backups that were not automatically deleted? Can I just delete them from the folder where they are stored?

Wait a while before creating a new task. Let's see if the deletion and repair does anything before creating a new task.
Do the deletion from inside TrueImage GUI as per this link. Delete backup 2 from both groups or whatever number to make it match what you want to keep so the backup on Wednesday will cause some action. Or after the deletion, run the backups manually (Backup now) for an immediate answer.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I followed your instructions to delete the back up 2 but TI 2014 froze and I had to exit the program and restart I truied this a number of times with the same result. I tried manually running the task and it created a new image without deleting any of the older ones. What I have done now is remove the task from the list and recreated the task. I'll wait and see what happens. I will need to delete some of the previous back ups as I will run out of space in the not too distant future.

Then you will need to do the deletion from the Windows Explorer and with TrueImage closed.

Hopefully, you pointed the new task to a new empty storage folder.

Thanks, I'll delete the backups from the previous task using Windows Explorer , Yes I created a new folder for the new task.

Milton,

The pictures show the backup numbering to be all mixed up. If the backup sheme is full only, the file sizes make no sense.

Was there a restore made recently? Was the task configuration changed recently?
Making changes to an existing task can also produce unexpected results.
If restored, it is better to stop using the old tasks and start over new bycreating a new task pointing to a new sub-foilder.

Anyway, at this point in order to get back on track, my recommendtion would that you create a new task with a change of backup scheme configuration.
Rather than use the opiton based on 1 elapsed day, use the option 'store no more then X number" and set the number of 1 or 2, etc based on how my full you wish to retain. Here are some examples of automatic cleanup using the "store X" examples.
