Automatic Cleanup Settings Not Saved
I enable automatic cleanup on the Backup scheme tab, adjust the settings, click OK and Save. I go back in and automatic cleanup is not enabled.
How do I fix and can how do I do a manual cleanup?

I having the same problem as Dan. It is not the challenge of clicking the settings as Grover seems to be trying to solve.
The problem is that when the settings are made, being sceptical computer people, I'm going back in and checking the settings have been saved.
The first thing I tried was just to make the change with the "Incremental Scheme" backup scheme selected. Acronis let me change the settings to "Turn on automatic cleanup" then I set "Keep size of the backup no more than" to 800 GB. Then I clicked OK which I expected to save the state of the screen as the state of the underlying settings.
No progress.
I then read in the help that automatic cleanup and other options are only available if a custom scheme is created. So I created a custom scheme, gave it a name "Inc Disc 800GB max" which I saved, made the settings change for automatic cleanup as above and then clicked every "save" or "OK" button I could see until I returned to where I started. I tried the same for another backup profile which I tried to call "Inc File 800GB max" but Acronis complaine that I had already used this name (someone is expected space-char as a name terminator in string compares?) so I tried "Inc-File 800GB max" which passed muster.
So now I go back and forth between these profiles to see which settings have been changed. Only one profile appears with the automatic cleanup turned on and set to 800GB max size and in neither case are the named and saved custom profiles listed in the "Backup scheme:" drop down box.
Frustrating! :-Q :-( :-()
So know I go looking to report a bug. Click on help and it suggests I send a message. Do this (pretty much as written above) and then I find I should have come here instead or raised an issue through the support web page.
In summary
1. "automatic cleanup" settings are not reliably sticky
2. Custom profile names are not liked if the have spaces
3. Custom profile names saved are not available / visible when returning to the settings screen for a backup scheme.
A review settings view would be useful instead of having to go into Edit Settings every time to confirm the settings for a backup..

No time to write more now but the one place to look to see if the settings has been saved for that partitcular task
is to look in the scripts folder and use notepad to look at the contents of the *.tib.tis script for that specific task.

Nothing relating to Acronis found under "C:\Users\Mark\AppData\Local"
No files found under
C:\Users\Mark\AppData\Roaming\Acronis\BackupScripts
or
C:\Users\Mark\AppData\Roaming\Acronis\TrueImageHome
Any suggestions where I should look?
Has anyone else reproduced this problem or see it work correctly?

Win7-64 path to scripts folder
C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts\77471FEF-806D-4065-8DF0-C6F67B94D589.tib.tis
Open into Notepad
I created a new task and checked save the default settings, and save the new task as non-scheduled and save as Back up later option.
custom task name saved before task save.
Created 2nd task. Prior custom name not listed but all prior custom settings were pre-set into position.
The present included the custom backup scheme, the working email notifications and the advanced settings including the validation and password all appeared as preset in the 2nd task,
Most definitely, the saved custom scheme needs to be saved which it is not doing in the recent 2015 build upgrade.

Hi GroverH, thanks for your help.
Now I've found the script files and looking at the one backup that seems to have the automatic cleanup enabled I've found the line
where the big number = 800 x 1024 x 1024 x 1024 = 800 Gib (gibibyte - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binary_prefix )
So I would say this is how the automatic cleanup configuration is stored in this case.
This field is found under ... ... ... ... ... ...
Now I know where to look I can confirm that this is not being set in any of the other scripts.
The custom scheme names I created (e.g. Inc File 800GB max, or "IncFile800GBmax") do not appear in any of the script files, neither do substrings such as "800" or "max". I would have expected this in an XML file as CDATA.
GroverH, did you try to set the automatic-cleanup option in more than one script?
I'm going to see if Acronis let me raise a bug.
(I'm using the Eclipse XML (WST) tools to browse and search copies of the .tis files if anyone cares.)

I now have automatic cleanup enabled for two backup tasks. I have not yet seen it work.
For the second task I wanted this option I set the scheme type to Custom and did not try to save it or save as a name.
I then set the automatic cleanup option to 800GB max size and clicked on OK then Save.
The field now appears in two scripts.

I have now used the online support by chat service and we have reproduced the problem with saving schemes by name. A bug has been raised.
The way to set automatic cleanup options at this time is to select "Custom scheme" from the Backup scheme drop-down then set the options, but do not try to - Save as - the scheme.

Thank you for the update.
I have never been satisfied with the results of the "max size" option, whiich is why I recommend automatiac cleanup based on how many backup chains to retain.
GH12. Create Custom Incremental Backup Scheme. 6 Inc, Keep 4 chains. The 6-4 is an example only with user choice for whatever number of chains to be retained best fits the individual needs.
Note/example: If rule selected is "Delete older than 7 days" is selected, deletion will not begin until the first chain (7 files) is completed and entire chain is older than 7 days.
GH14. Custom Differential Backup Scheme . 6 Diff, Keep 4 chains. & folder

I have automatic cleanup parameters saved by choosing Custom backup scheme as first parameter instead of 'Incremental' backup scheme, but then, even if automatic cleanup is on, no cleanup ever takes place ! ...
Is there somebody who has some automatic cleanup ever taking place ? ...

Automatic cleanup did happen this morning, I believe it was something in the parameter database that wasn't right, because the cleanup happened after I changed the cleanup type and then reset them back to what I had set them before, and then actual cleanup did happen ...

Mario,
Making changes to an existing task rarely produces the results expected.
If you wish to post a picture of your backup scheme, I may be able to assist.
This link may be of assisance.

It's now June 2017, I was having the same issue here. Am I a one off or has this not yet been resolved? Strange! In any event, I used Mark Stephens' advice (pasted below) and now the Automatic Cleanup is working.
" The way to set automatic cleanup options at this time is to select "Custom scheme" from the Backup scheme drop-down then set the options, but do not try to - Save as - the scheme. "
Here's the information from the "About" screen, if it is of any importance I don't know:
Acronis True Image Version 2017, Build 8053
The product is up to date
The product has been successfully activated.
It would be nice if the automatic cleanup was 100% but as many times as ATI has saved my rear, I will live with it as long as it does everything else, which it does!

Dan, welcome to these User Forums.
There is no problem with saving the Automatic Cleanup settings with ATIH 2017 or 2016 as far as I am aware.
This topic is 3 years old and was raised for ATIH 2015 and may have been caused by a misunderstanding of the options shown on the settings page.
The 'Save as' option is only to save a modified backup scheme with a user defined scheme name - it has no impact on saving the automatic cleanup settings.
If changes are made to automatic cleanup or other retention settings, then to save these, you need to select on of the Backup options, i.e. Backup now, Backup in 1 hour, 2 hours, Later. Without clicking on these Backup options, changes made are discarded.
Please note that there is a separate ATIH 2017 Forum for questions about this version of the product.

In reply to Dan, welcome to these User… by truwrikodrorow…

Hi Steve and thank you for your reply. It never occurred to me that I could not save the default incremental but that is what I was doing wrong. With a brand new (newly created) backup using the user defined scheme, the changes stick! It seems so obvious now, I am a bit embarrassed.
I apologize to the board for resurrecting this old message thread. It seemed most similar to my ("User Created") 'trouble.' But I will look around and be more careful about where I post, should the need arise I will post in the ATI 2017 forum -- or 2018, 20... The ATI program has saved me more times than I would care to admit, so I am in it for the long haul!
Thanks again Steve! All the best.
Dan

I'd say that this is a UI bug. I just ran into this myself, and I can confirm that if "Custom Scheme" is not selected for the "Backup scheme" option, the automatic cleanup settings are not saved upon leaving that part of the UI. Or at the very least, it's possible that it is indeed doing cleanup but the UI isn't reflecting it.
In my opinion, if the user hasn't selected "Custom scheme", the ability to change the automatic cleanup options shouldn't be presented to the user if they aren't going to be obeyed. Or even better, if Acronis wishes to make the automatic cleanup feature more obvious to the end-user, once something it selected (e.g. automatic cleanup is turned on), then Acronis should automatically switch the "Backup scheme" drop-down to "Custom scheme", which allows the selected option to be saved.
As it currently is, a user may think that auto cleanup has been enabled, but Acronis will silently discard the selection that the user has made.

William, thank you for your comments. I have just tested this myself and can confirm what you are saying though I agree that this is a UI bug as Automatic Cleanup should be available for all the backup schemes other than for Single version, not just when selecting Custom.
I would request that you submit Feedback on this issue via the GUI tool and reference this forum topic please, and I will also do the same.

Thanks William, have also reported the same.
