Automatic consolidation does consolidation every day

Thread needs solution

I'm using ATIH2010 and have created four daily file backup tasks. Each one of them is an incremental backup and is set to do automatic consolidation after 5 backups but seems to be "consolidating" every time it runs.

The problem is that it creates five .tib files - one very large one (presumably the full backup) and then four small ones (presumably the incrementals) - every time it does a backup (once a day) and each one has today's time stamp on it. Each task therefore takes over an hour when it should take a couple of minutes four out of the five times it runs.

What's the point of having the "automatic consolidation" option if it's going to effectively do a full backup each time??

Or am I missing something?

I changed the automatic consolidation to "every five days" instead of "every 5 backups" to see if that prevented it from creating a full backup every day but it doesn't appear to have worked (see attached screen shot from today's backup - files and log).

Anyone got any ideas?

The Scheduler has become confused.

Your options are - make new schedules and delete the originals or more or less the same, download the Acronis task zapper utility and delete the tasks.

One thing that can cause this is if part of an archive has been deleted manually or some glitch happened when an image was being made which has caused the scheduler to become confused.

What might also work is if you export the tasks (Help\Export) and then delete the tasks in TIH and then re-import them and start a new schedule. I haven't tried this, but it might solve the problem rather than deleting the tasks altogether.

Thanks, Colin.

When you say "make new schedules", do you mean re-create the tasks in TIH or delete all of the .tib files and re-run the existing tasks? It sounds like you mean re-create the tasks in TIH but where is the "screwed-up data"? Surely it's not in the task definition?

By the way, how do I get this forum to email me when I get a reply? I checked the "Notify me..." box but didn't receive an email after you replied.

Cheers,

Russell

Russell,

Just the tasks need to be recreated.

I'm not sure exactly where the screwed up data lies, but sometimes the tib script (task script) gets wrong entries and thent he part of TIH that actually is the database goes awry.

The website sometimes hiccups, try enabling the notify option in your user account. This of course is a global choice rather than a by thread choice.

I've only re-created one of the tasks and so far so good. I have three .tib files for the 11th, 12th and 13th of April. The 11th was the full backup and the 12th and 13th are incremental. Looking forward to seeing what happens when it gets to 5 .tib files....

Now it's back to the way it was before I recreated the tasks - it's creating five .tib files in a single day so is back to "consolidating" every single day which takes hours when it's consolidating 200GB.

Attached is a screen shot of my iTunes media backup folder after yesterday's backup. All five files have yesterday's timestamp on them. Guess what's going to happen today if I leave the "automatically consolidate" option on...

I think I'll just give up on the automatic consolidation feature - it simply doesn't work.
