Automatic Consolidation options not sticking for scheduled task
I am using Acronis True Image Home 2010
I have a task set up to do full backups and I want to only keep 5 backups, with the oldest backups being automatically deleted.
I have followed section 13.4.1 in the User Guide, which is exactly the scenario I wish to implement.
So, on the 'Automatic consolidation' page of the wizard, I have selected the 'Number of backups exceeds' option, and changed the number to 5. I hit 'Next' and then 'Proceed' which I believe should save my changes.
Except, it doesn't. When I go back in and edit my task, the 'Automatic consolidation' page hasn't saved my values. Everything has reverted to unselected.
Anybody have any ideas why this might be?

Hello Robert,
Let me clarify this situation for you.
Unfortunately, we have this common issue with 6053 build of the product. It has been escalated to our Development. I will update this initial thread with this issue as soon as we get the results.
I'm sorry for inconvenience.
Additionally to this, you are welcome to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis, and I will assist you further.
Regards,

Have you considered using oracledba's Chain2Gen helper program. I assure you, C2G can provide the solution you need. TI does the backups and C2G helps you to control how many backups you want and how many to keep, etc.

Hello Acronis,
I want to do the ecact same thing that Robert wants to do - keep a running 5 copies of a full backup. I have build 7046 - NOT 6053.
Does the same problem occur in 7046 also??

Tom

Hello,
GroverH, thanks for your help.
Thomas, let me answer your question. The issue was fixed in build #7046, so it shouldn't occur anymore.
Please reply to this thread if you have any additional questions.
Thank you.

Hi Grover,
We have been using 7046 for sone time not. It doens not work either. Ahmad has spent a great deal of time on the phone with me trying to get it to.
I want to do the exact same thing that Robert wants to do - keep a running 5 copies of a full backup. I have build 7046. My backup exceeds this and my disk runs out of space. In addition, on my other computer we have never been able to schedule an ONLINE backup.
What software package would you guys recommend. I tried SOS and Norton. Norton is absolutely out of the question. I hate Norton products.
Thank you for your time and consideration Grover!
All the best,
Tom

Thomas,
TrueImage Home needs a little help to accomplish your goals. That help is provided as described in post #3 above. Chain2Gen(C2G) will solve your issues and is easy to configure. TIH does the scheduling and the backups. C2G takes care of making sure that you retain the desired number of backups. C2G runs from inside TrueImageHome. TIH starts and turns the program over to C2G temporarily. C2G handles the retention part (rotating the excess backups out) and returns the program back to TIH for completion of the backup.
The readme file included with Chain2Gen is excellent and if you want even more help, look at the tutorial listed in item 3B of my signature index below.

I'm using build 7046 and the setting for the size of the archive does not work. Why should we worry about Chain2Gen when Acronis can't even write software that works for its advertized features. This is pathetic.
