backing up even though HDD is not connected

Thread needs solution

No problems up until recently, but my Acronis shows having backed up but my Hard Disk External Drive is not even switched on, and additionally every update I perform now shows a cumulative figure of GB updated, rather than just the Full Update figure, say 25 GB, now it is up to something like 100 GB.
It is only on one computer, other is ok.
Any ideas?

Sounds like a settings feature might be wrong within True Image. Might be possible you are backing your previous backups as well as the current one each time you do a backup.

Hi Bob, no it is only doing a back up of about 25 GB each time, but it is adding that amount as a cumulative figure, maybe not worth the head scratching to sort it out. But the other issue is that Acronis said it had done a back up the previous day, even though I had not scheduled it and my hard disk drive was not plugged into the computer, very strange, I had not been fiddling around with the settings.

I have read in this forum many complaints about size issues. Most seem to be about backups growing in size or doubling in size with each backup. I have no proof of this but I suspect this issue has something to do with how TI calculates the numbers. I also suspect that the cloud storage which is turned on in 2014 by default is playing a part in that issue as well. I suspect this same default cloud backup to be the reason why the program told you that a backup was done even though one was not sheduled and your backup drive was not attached. The program is thinking for the user here and it is designed to backup to the cloud by default.

I know it is possible to turn that feature off, GroverH has written instructions within these threads about that. I wonder how long it will be before users start complaining about the program stating that their backup drives are running out of room even though they clearly are not and the real issue is the cloud storage maximum has been reached! That should get some attention from tech support on these issues. I have seen a couple of threads about users saying the program is showing errors referencing insufficient disk space so maybe that aspect is begining to show up now!

I would suggest disabling scheduling and cloud storage, do your own manual backups for awhile, and wait until the dust settles to see what the outcome is with the obvious problems the app has in these areas.
