Backing up to Network Drive fails

Thread needs solution

I have a wireless router with an attached USB HDD. The router is setup to share the drive as a SMB share. When selecting a backup location I'm able to see and select the mapped drive fine but when I click on the backup location from the main screen I get "Cannot find file or folder. If it's located on a removable media or remote storage, then make sure the storage device is connected, and try again. Event code: 0x006400D7+0x00640241+0x00640010".

Further if I actually execute the backup it runs for about 12 hours and then fails with errors like
0x0004000A_0x0000FFF0_0x80070035
0x00040003_0x0000FFF0_0x80070040

but it looks like those issues don't have any articles associated with them. So my question is why would it allow me to select a network drive as a location to perform the backup if it can't actually backup anything there? All the features on the website said that it was possible to back up to a network drive, am I missing something?

Hello Marcus,

Welcome to the Forum and thank you for posting.

The initial event code indicates that our software cannot access the backup location, you can find additional information in this Knowledge Base article.

Most likely the backup location cannot be accessed because it is a mapped drive. I would recommend using a full UNC path (e.g. \\server\share\) instead of a mapped drive. Please take a look at this Knowledge base article for more info.
