Backup to 2 drives simultaneously?

Thread needs solution

Hi ...

Is there any way to back up to 2 different external drives at the same time? They are plugged into separate USB ports.

If not, is there a way to copy the contents of one external drive to the second?

Thanks for any help!

No, you cannot backup in parallel. ATI will first finish one backup before the starting the other one.

One option is to to use the reserve copy feature. Reserve copies are always full backups. It is not necessarily a good option for you.

Another option is to have 2 tasks with different names, the same content to backup, but backing up in 2 destinations. That is the best one, in my opinion.

Just make sure you assign fixed drive letters to your backup disks, for example X: and Y:. If you need explanations on how to do this let me know.

That's a good idea ... configuring 2 different tasks with the same files to different drives. Thanks very much!

Don't forget to set a fixed drive letter for each backup drive. Otherwise ATI might get seriously confused if one disk takes the drive letter of the other one one day because you plugged another drive or something...

Robin,
If you want to make it even easier, also use DriveNotify which is a reminder as to which drive to attach and backup will not begin until you do attach.

Click on the info in my signature link below.

Plug in your drives.
Right click on my computer > manage > storage > disk management
Scroll down until you see your backup drives
Right click on a partition > Change Drive Letters and Path
Click change, select a letter down in the alphabet order from the drop down, click OK twice
Reboot
Check your backup settings to make sure the destination is right.

While you are at it, use different labels for the 2 drives that remind you of the task name. That will help when you restore from the CD.
