Backup bootable USB stick/flash drive WITH BootRecord possible?

Thread needs solution

I have an USB stick/flash drive with max 30 GB capacity and a current content of 6 GB.

When I use one of the publicly available backup tools like "USB image tools" then the resulting backup archive file has a size of 30GB since it cannot distinguigh between used and free sectors on the (FAT32 formatted) USB stick.

This is bad.

Can TI backup (and compress) an USB stick/flash drive and dismiss all free/unused USB sectors?

The resulting archive file size for the scenario above should be approx 4 GB.

Of cause the archive should be later restorable.

Yes, it should but not all flash drives are alike in partition types, etc.
why not give it a try and see if both the backup and restore is possible for you.
What you are asking is normal for TI and it should work providing the sticks can be seen and recognized.
